“They’re still after your boy:” Hasan Piker subpoena sparks Reddit firestorm

Left-wing Twitch influencer Hasan Piker has responded to federal authorities issuing a subpoena regarding a March trip to Cuba, in which he helped deliver roughly 20 tonnes of humanitarian aid.
In a livestream on Sunday afternoon, a visibly shaken Piker claimed that the federal intervention was an “intimidation tactic” mostly due to his condemnation of the US and Israel military operation in Iran.
Piker’s tone was on an informal, yet desperate level in the clip as Piker updated:
It’s still not great that they're after your boy. They're up my a--.

Piker, along with Code Pink founder Medea Benjamin, has been requested to disclose their financial, communications, and logistics documentation tied to the trip, reported Fox News.
The pair is part of a larger envoy called Nuestra América Convoy, or Our America Convoy, and have been to Havana twice in 2024 and 2026. Piker and Benjamin have even been accused of bringing supplies directly to the communist party.
On her X, Benjamin vehemently pushed back against the subpoena – claiming “leave the Cuban people alone.”
I am guilty.

Guilty of loving the Cuban people.
Guilty of believing Cuban children deserve medicine instead of sanctions.
Guilty of believing that trying to save lives should not be treated like a crime. pic.twitter.com/LPkolNChb8
Vociferous polarization
The US has imposed a full trade embargo against Cuba since February 1962, following its failed invasion of the Bay of Pigs in April 1961.
What remains unclear is whether the activists will be exempt from further legal investigation, as they may qualify as journalists or humanitarian workers.
As the Reddit community tried to shed light on the matter, vociferous polarization ensued.
“A subpoena doesn't mean much. They're just compelling you to show up so they can ask questions,” commented Reddit user GreatSoulLord, as the debate flared up.
“This is America, not Russia”
Hasan Piker is already one of the internet’s most polarizing political streamers.
Critics frequently accuse him of glorifying authoritarian governments and inflammatory rhetoric.
A few days before the subpoena, Piker streamed for 17 minutes on Twitch and YouTube, titled “Will Trump invade Cuba?”, during which he went on a lengthy rant.
“There is no strategic purpose to the destruction of Cuba. It is just rank cruelty. It's cold war boomer vengeance that is still guiding a lot of people.”
And his supporters argue his comments are protected political speech under the First Amendment. Back over on Reddit, one commenter summed it up as Piker can say what he wants.
“This is America, not Russia. If you want to call America a shithole and that it needs to fall, then you can.”
And another brought up Piker's previous incidence of violent speech:
When Cybernews checked the transcript for Piker's rant about Trump and Cuba, we found no evidence of violent speech.
Piker, however, did once exclaim, "Let the streets soak in the red, capitalist blood!" in a stream in relation to the American housing market and wealthy landlords. He had also been scheduled to debate the late Charlie Kirk in September 2025, before the right-wing Kirk was assassinated at one of his speech rallies.

What becomes of this is quite unpredictable, as one of the internet's most controversial streamers seems to be at the peak of polarized debate.
