A high-quality bootleg of the anticipated Spider-Man: Brand New Day has reportedly been leaked on X and attracted millions of views before it was eventually removed a few hours later.
The film was posted by an account named Fredrick Bryan at 6:05 a.m. PT, according to Variety. It was viewed by 5.9 million X users and gathered 143,000 likes and 10,000 reshares before being taken down around 3:25 p.m. PT.
Copies of the film were uploaded by a few other X accounts but got quickly removed from the platform.
Some users on X complained about the situation.
“DUDE NO I WAS WATCHING THIS SPIDERMAN BRAND NEW DAY MOVIE ON TWITTER AND IT SUDDENLY STOPPED PLAYING,” one user said.
“I got literally HALF WAY THROUGH the damn thing lmao. So pissed,” another user commented.
Sony had no comment.
The incident follows the recent leak of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, which was posted on X last weekend, gathering more than 2.1 million views. In response to the incident, Universal told Variety:
"We became aware of the unauthorized posting of the film and immediately initiated takedown protocols. We take copyright infringement seriously and will pursue all appropriate remedies to protect our content and intellectual property rights."
After Twitter became X under Elon Musk, Premium subscribers gained the ability to upload long videos, with limits up to 4 hours and a maximum file size of 16 GB. Free accounts are capped at 140 seconds and 512 MB.
The extended upload option gained criticism from copyright holders, who argue the platform now makes it easier to distribute pirated movies.
