Apple says the revamped Siri AI is coming out this year.

The upgrade is part of Apple’s attempt to recover from criticism over Apple Intelligence’s underperforming AI features.

EU users will not get in on the Siri AI launch because Apple says DMA rules would require broader third-party assistant access to private data and app controls than it considers safe.
The company previewed iOS 27 and its new features at this year’s Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) at Apple Park campus in Cupertino, California.
The most anticipated upgrades focused on the company’s AI and Siri voice assistant.
In 2024, the company announced the release of Apple Intelligence. However, consumers soon learned that advertised functionalities didn’t work as expected, leading some to disable them altogether.
Since then, discussions about Siri, Apple’s voice assistant, have been circulating about whether it can once again be revamped to rival other AI agents.
While the company aimed to refresh its AI and bring back Siri, the situation escalated to the point that Apple recently agreed to a $250 million settlement in a lawsuit.
The class-action lawsuit alleged that Apple had falsely advertised artificial intelligence features in its new smartphones.
During Apple's WWDC 2026, the company announced that, with the upcoming iOS 27 release scheduled for September 2026, users will also be able to use the revamped AI and Siri capabilities.
What new features will Siri AI include?
The new Siri will be able to answer “open-ended questions, brainstorm ideas for work or creative projects, and engage in natural, back-and-forth conversations,” shared Apple.
The renewed voice assistant will be able to find an old photo, email, or note without a user needing to scroll through pages.
Siri will also be able to perform actions in apps like Messages or Music, such as editing a message you just sent or adding a song to your playlist.
Apple users will also be able to ask questions about their surroundings via Visual Intelligence.
With Visual Intelligence, users can take a picture of what’s in front of them and ask questions or request more information about what they’re seeing. It also allows users to split a bill more easily or find out the nutritional value of their meal.
Siri AI will also help with communication-related tasks. For example, it will draft a message or email from your prompt or proofread messages you wrote yourself.
It will come in a dedicated app, where users can see what they’ve already asked the agent. With this app, users can use Siri AI via different devices (for example, iPhone and iPad) and have all the conversations in one place.
The company noted that the new Apple Intelligence features will be available this fall, while “Siri AI [is] coming in English later this year.”

European users will have to wait longer
Despite the plan to introduce Siri AI to its users this year, the company also noted that this Apple Intelligence feature won’t be accessible to everyone. It announced that when iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 are released, users in the European Union won’t have access to Siri AI and its features.
“Unfortunately, due to the Digital Markets Act (DMA), Apple will not be able to ship Siri AI in the European Union with the release of iOS 27 and iPadOS 27,” explained Apple.
The issue is related to privacy regulations.
According to Apple, Siri AI “is private by design.” But, according to DMA regulations, “Apple would have to give any virtual assistant direct access to users’ private data – and the ability to directly control other installed applications – as soon as Siri AI is made available in the EU, without the essential protections necessary to keep users and their data safe.”
The company also noted that users in the EU won’t have access to Siri AI via watchOS 27. But it will be available on macOS 27 and visionOS 27.
