In 2022, Holmes was sentenced to 11 years in prison for fraud after it was revealed that Theranos’ Edison blood-testing device produced inaccurate results. The investigation also revealed that the company has been using regular machines from other companies for most of its testing.
The scandal involving Theranos sparked widespread backlash, with many expressing deep anger towards Holmes for deceiving not only her investors but also people who believed in her invention, and for putting people’s lives at risk.
Many were also angered by Holmes’ lack of remorse and understanding of the gravity of the situation.
This isn’t the first screen adaptation telling the story of Holmes. In 2022, a TV show, The Dropout, starring Amanda Seyfried, was released.
