Google Earth celebrates 20th anniversary with Street View upgrade

Google Earth invites you on a trip down memory lane.

Google Earth is well known for showing detailed maps of the world through satellite imagery. Now, it includes a new feature allowing users to look back in time through pictures taken all across the globe.

The new feature, which was previously only available on Google Maps, marks Google Earth's 20th anniversary.

“Now you can explore the wonders of the planet from even more viewpoints, whether it’s a bird’s eye view or at street level,” states a Google blog post via Mashable.

To use the historical Street View feature, once you’re “on the street” you want to check, click on “See more dates” at the top right corner. This will let you set your preferred date to see the images from the past.

To check imagery from a bird's-eye view, you can click on the “Historical imagery” button on Google Earth.

Over the years, Google Street View has become useful not only when people are looking for future places to visit but also when taking a trip down memory lane, as proved by last year’s TikTok trend.

Google Street View was introduced in 2007. It first included images of five cities in the US: New York, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Miami, and Denver.
