Google’s upcoming Project Jarvis may help you buy things and do research

Google’s new AI agent will reportedly take over users' browsers and do things on their behalf.

Google is reportedly developing an AI agent that will be able to take over the Chrome browser and perform tasks such as conducting research, booking flights, and making purchases.

According to three sources by The Information with direct knowledge of the matter, this new tool may be released as early as this December, along with the new Google Gemini large language models.

Google’s new tool will reportedly respond to a person’s commands “by capturing frequent screenshots of what’s on their computer screen, and interpreting the shots before taking actions like clicking on a button or typing into a text field.”

According to the publication, now it takes a couple of seconds to take one action, which may mean that Google is sending data to the cloud to process it.

The name of Google’s agent may be familiar to those who watched movies created by Marvel Studios.

In them, J.A.R.V.I.S., short for “Just A Rather Very Intelligent System,” is depicted as a highly advanced AI that helps Iron Man with various tasks. It combines capabilities like natural language processing, automation, data analysis, and more.

Google is one of many companies trying to create AI-based programs that can take action on users' behalf.

Last week, Anthropic introduced a beta version of its Claude AI tools for developers.

According to the company, the new Anthropopic tool may be used to fill out request forms, analyze data, search for information, and more.

AI agents can also be used for recreational purposes, such as building virtual worlds in Minecraft.
