Microsoft has announced that the new version of Office can be used without a subscription.
A commercial preview of the new Office LTSC 2024 version will take place in April, with a general release scheduled later in the year.
With its latest version of Office, Microsoft is focusing on commercial and government use. Office Long-Term Servicing Channel (or LTSC) adaptation is special because it still supports devices that can’t access software updates frequently or don’t have access to the internet.
Nonetheless, Office will also be available for all its consumers sometime in 2024, including for Mac users.
According to a Microsoft report, it will still work as a device-based “perpetual” license, supported for five years. So, instead of subscribing to the service, users will now pay a single fee and receive updates until 2029.
Regarding Office LTSC pricing, the company will increase the costs of Office LTSC Professional Plus, Office LTSC Standard, Office LTSC Embedded, and individual apps “by up to 10%.” The price of Office for consumers should remain the same during the time of its release.
