The company is giving a heads-up before raising the prices of PlayStation gaming consoles in April.

Sony announced a price hike for PlayStation consoles that will affect customers worldwide.

The price change will affect PS5, PS5 Pro, and PlayStation Portal remote player.

It was announced that the changes will come into effect on April 2nd, 2026.

So far, the company has shared the price change in the US, the UK, Europe, and Japan, adding that “for all other territories,” users should check that via their local retailer or the direct PlayStation website.

In the US, the current PlayStation 5 is priced at $550, the PlayStation 5 Pro at $750, and the PS5 Digital Edition at $500.

The new price tags reveal that starting next month, the same Sony gaming consoles will be sold for $100 more.

This means the PS5 will cost $650, the PS5 Pro edition will go for $900, and the PS5 Digital Edition will be available for $600.

The company also added that its $200 PlayStation Portal remote player will cost $250 in the US, £220 in the UK, and €250 in Europe.

The reason for the change is “continued pressures in the global economic landscape,” which led Sony to raise its product prices to ensure it can deliver users “innovative, high-quality gaming experiences,” the company noted.

However, this reason didn’t seem very convincing to its customers, who started a discussion on X, where the company shared the latest news.

“Don't blame what's happening around the world. This is just greedy bs, and you know it!” wrote one X user.

“This is absolutely insane to say the least. I get the RAM shortages, the war, and tariffs aren’t helping at all, but this is a $100 jump on top of the price increase that happened months ago,” shared another netizen, referring to Sony increasing its product prices by $50 on August 2025.

Some users were also questioning the move, as the company has been implementing price increases for products released in 2020 (PlayStation 5) and 2024 (PlayStation 5 Pro).

“Hot take, but I think things should get cheaper the older that they are, crazy idea!” wrote game reviewer and content creator @SynthPotato.

“And yet we wonder why people are dropping console gaming and then going to PC to drop gaming entirely as a whole because it's too expensive to be called a hobby anymore,” added another user.
