WhatsApp is testing a new feature that could let Android users create their own AI-powered chatbots.
Meta appears to be expanding its AI tools on WhatsApp, starting with a feature that allows users to create custom chatbots. While it’s currently only available to a small number of beta testers, the feature might become available to more people in the next few weeks.
Similar to what’s already live on Instagram and Messenger, this new tool enables users to design an AI chatbot by defining its role, personality, and visual avatar. Using a feature called AI Studio, users can write a prompt of up to 1000 characters and explain what the chatbot should do, for example, offer advice, teach a subject, or just take part in a chit-chat.
WhatsApp will suggest “personality traits” the avatar might possess based on the user’s input. However, customization will be strongly encouraged. Avatars can be edited or generated from scratch using text prompts.
As reported by Gadgets360, the update suggests that Meta is laying the groundwork to make chatbot creation as easy and personal as messaging real people. It’s still unclear whether users will be able to share their creations publicly, but that is already possible on Instagram and Messenger.
