Total Adblock capabilities

Total Adblock is one of the best ad blockers on the market. This service uses script blocking to prevent malicious adware from targeting your data, meaning that it blocks websites from writing non-essential cookies before gaining the users’ consent.

Additionally, this ad blocker works by removing pop-ups, banners, video ads, and third-party trackers.

More so, Total Adblock can block these types of ads:

  • Contextual advertising – this is a common advertising type, and it relies on the placement of the ads on the website. You won’t see ads all over the page after blocking these. Total Adblock got rid of Google Adsense and Yandex Direct successfully.
  • Analytic tools – these are not ads but trackers that monitor what you click on the site and what content or ads the user interacts with. Total Adblock blocked Google Analytics and Hotjar successfully.
  • Banner advertising – most common ads like banners, gif images, static images, pop-ups, page push ads, etc. Total Adblock managed to block all of them.
  • Error monitoring – this one is a monitor to know how well the site was loaded, what content broke when loading, etc. Not very important to block as it only gives feedback to developers on their site. Total Adblock blocked Bugsnag monitoring; however, it did not stop Sentry from monitoring our activity.
  • In video ads – video ads that are shown on the website or streaming platforms like YouTube, Twitch, or any other platform. Total Adblock managed to block video ads very well.

To enable this feature, you simply need to provide all the links to pages where seeing ads is allowed. In turn, Total Adblock will omit these sites from their script-based ad blocking.

Pop-up Blocker

When enabled, Pop-up Blocker stops all notifications from the browser. Alternatively, if there are any sites where you wish to see the pop-up ads, then you can whitelist them the same as with ads.

Total Adblock test results

To truly understand Total Adblock's capabilities, we also tested this provider with various third-party testing tools in tandem with our in-house testing.

Our in-house testing proved that this ad blocker is truly a remarkable tool. It can block various pop-up ads, video ads, and deliver great results without a paid subscription, too. Total Adblock can also prevent YouTube ads on your browser and block Facebook ads and trackers.

Now the independent testing tools confirm our in-house experience as well. These tests were performed with the Total Adblock Chrome extension:

  • Can You Block It – here, the site is loaded with many different types of ads, and then it checks how the provider managed to block this adware. The test we ran showed that Total Adblock blocked all possible ads. total adblock with canyoublockit
  • AdBlock Tester – this test works similarly to Can You Block It, but also provides a score out of 100. Total Adblock scored 97/100. The only place of struggle was error trackers; the ad blocker didn’t manage to block all of them. total adblock with adblock tester
  • Cover Your Tracks – this test focuses on trackers: blocking tracking ads, removing invisible trackers, and protecting from fingerprinting. Total Adblock is confirmed to block tracking ads and invisible trackers. Cover your tracks total adblock

Customer support

Total Adblock offers readily available customer support options if you run into some troubles. Once you click on the Support tab in the extension, you’ll get redirected to TotalAV’s help center. From there, you’ll get to pick what product requires support – antivirus, password manager, VPN, or an ad blocker.

This help center offers FAQ pages with answers to only the most frequently asked questions. However, if the answer doesn’t help you, you can click on “No” and then be redirected to the live chat.

When we contacted the support agents with our questions, we had to wait for 2-3 minutes to be connected with an agent. However, the first agent seemed like a bot, and since it couldn’t help us, we were redirected to another agent to help us with our issue.

Troubleshooting

While using Total Adblock, you might encounter certain issues that require troubleshooting. Here are the most common instances of such issues:

  • Harmful to Devices alert – this alert shouldn’t be an issue anymore. Not long ago, only Samsung devices were supported by the app you downloaded from the Google Play Store. So you had to download the APK file. Naturally, as that APK file is outside Google Play, phones tended to mark this as a dangerous app. Now the app from the Google Play store does support all Androids, and there is no need to download a separate APK file.
  • Unsuccessful payment – this error can mean anything: your bank blocked the transaction, you don’t have enough funds, there’s a connection error, etc. How to solve this problem is hard to answer – contact your bank, try again in a couple of minutes or the next day. Additionally, you can try to disable your VPN or restart the device.
