Total Adblock review 2026: hassle-free ad blocker

For this Total Adblock review, I tested its ability to block ads and trackers, features, app and extension differences, and affordability. After this in-depth review, I have no doubts that Total Adblock is among the leading ad blockers on the market.

I discovered that Total Adblock offers great performance, scoring 100/100 on the AdBlock Tester, while maintaining ease of use for end users. Total Adblock also provides a free tier, but I advise against it, given its limited functionalities. However, the paid version really gives you value for your money. Total Adblock: company background

Total Adblock is one of the best ad blockers on the market. It uses script blocking to prevent malicious adware from targeting your data. This means it blocks websites from writing non-essential cookies before gaining the users’ consent. Total Adblock also removes pop-ups, banners, video ads, and third-party trackers.

Created by the same company behind one of the best antiviruses, TotalAV, this software ensures excellent protection from adware and other malicious threats that can target your information.

Cybernews pro tip

Total Adblock is an exceptional ad blocker. It blocks various types of ads from infecting your device and slowing your browsing experience. You can test the Premium version of this ad blocker with a 7-day free trial and use a 14-day money-back guarantee.

The Total Adblock free subscription plan is quite limited since you can only use it for 7 days. However, Total Adblock Premium is very budget-friendly, so investing in an advanced protection tool from adware won't hurt your wallet.

The premium Total Adblock cost is only $1.59/month and has a 14-day money-back guarantee. Alternatively, you can purchase a TotalAV antivirus suite for $49.00/year and get this ad blocker included. Then, you also get a 30-day money-back guarantee.

It’s important to remember that the Total Adblock subscription prices renew automatically. To stop the auto-renewal, you must disable it manually in your account.

This also applies to the 7-day free trial. When you sign up for the free trial, you agree to Total Adblock charging you the regular fee once the trial is finished. If you don’t wish to keep using Total Adblock after the free trial period, make sure you cancel your subscription before the 7 days are over.

Is Total Adblock safe?

Yes, Total Adblock is a safe and legitimate ad blocker to use. The tool is offered by TotalAV, a well-known and secure antivirus provider that consistently shows excellent independent test results.

Most importantly, my tests showed that Total Adblock successfully eliminates the most dangerous adware variants, making it an excellent choice for improving online safety.

Its privacy policy also raises no concerns about how it handles users’ data. It only collects information necessary for internal purposes and doesn't share personal data with third parties. This means that your online activities remain private, and personal information is kept strictly confidential.

However, make sure that you only download Total Adblock from its official website or a reputable app store, as any other source could be infected with malware.

Total Adblock features

While its list of features may seem relatively small, Total Adblock provides excellent protection from adware. It can block different types of ads and gives you enough customization to ensure secure and botherless browsing online. Specifically, it blocks the following types of ads and trackers:

  • Contextual advertising. This is a common advertising type, and it relies on the placement of the ads on the website. You won’t see ads all over the page after blocking these. In my tests, Total Adblock successfully got rid of Google Adsense and Yandex Direct.
  • Analytic tools. These are not ads but trackers that monitor what you click on the site and what content or ads you interact with. Total Adblock successfully blocked Google Analytics and Hotjar for me.
  • Banner advertising. This includes the most common ads like banners, GIF images, static images, pop-ups, and page push ads. Total Adblock managed to block all of them.
  • Error monitoring. This one monitors how well the site was loaded and what content broke when loading. Not very important to block, as it only gives feedback to developers on their site. Total Adblock blocked Bugsnag monitoring. However, it didn't stop Sentry from monitoring my activity.
  • In-video ads. These are video ads that are shown on websites or streaming platforms like YouTube or Twitch. Total Adblock managed to block video ads very well.

Allow List

The Allow List feature has two sections: Ads and Notifications. As the name suggests, in the Ads section, you can whitelist websites where you want to see ads.

To enable this feature, you simply need to provide all the links to pages where seeing ads is allowed. In turn, Total Adblock will omit these sites from its script-based ad blocking.

In the Notifications section, if your pop-up blocker is enabled, the whitelisted pages will still send you notifications. All you need to do is put in their URL addresses to exclude them from the block list.

Filters

The Filters feature is only available on Android and iOS devices. It allows the users to filter out different types of content, including, but not limited to:

  • Irritating elements (cookie notices and third-party widgets)
  • Online trackers that collect your activity data
  • Mobile ads (blocks known mobile ad networks)
  • Social media widgets

Compatibility

Although Total Adblock pricing plans are split into free and premium options, the compatibility across both remains the same. To be precise, you can use the service on Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Opera. However, to set it up on Opera, you must first download it from the Chrome Web Store.

Android and iOS users can set up the Total Adblock app via Google Play and App Store, which will block adware while browsing online on their mobile devices.

Previously, Total Adblock was also available on Firefox, but it’s no longer supported. Additionally, you can’t get a browser extension for Safari.

Interface and ease of use

VersionUse
Browser versionChrome, Microsoft Edge, and Opera – easy to navigate and beginner-friendly
App versionAndroid and iOS – well designed, easy to navigate, and includes all features

Total Adblock is fit to work with almost all popular browsers and can even be downloaded as an app to your Android and iOS mobile devices. All the same features are available throughout all browser versions of this ad blocker, so you won’t get a lesser option just because of your browser choice. On the other hand, when it comes to the app versions, the Android one has the most features available.

Unfortunately, the Firefox browser extension is no longer available as of the time of writing this article.

All browser extension versions are very easy to use for beginners and experienced users. I liked that it has a simplistic design and customization possibilities.

The browser extension blocks pop-up ads, banners, video ads, and trackers. It also worked exceptionally well with YouTube ads, saving me from both before-video ads and banner ads.

Mobile Total Adblock app

The iOS Total Adblock app is available on the App Store. This is a truly excellent iOS ad blocker option and our top-rated one for iPhone and iPad devices.

Total Adblock iOS app interface

The app is well-designed and easy to navigate. The Account section is on a separate tab, so are the settings to customize your use.

This Total Adblock version offers all the features you want, including:

  • Whitelisting option
  • Advanced Filters (Ad Blocking filters, Annoyances filter, Security filters (like Spam404 filter and malicious URL blocklist))
  • YouTube video ad blocking

The Android version is available to download depending on your OS version – Total Adblock works on Android versions 5.0 and higher. Additionally, we rate Total Adblock as one of the best ad blocker for Android devices, only second to Surfshark CleanWeb.

Total Adblock Android app interface

As I expected, the Total Adblock Android version is designed nicely. It’s easy to navigate and provides all the main information points on the home screen.

I found the Android app the most feature-rich of all Total Adblock versions. In addition to the iOS features, it includes:

  • Content Blocking feature
  • Update rules over Wi-Fi only
  • Option to contact support from the settings tab

Total Adblock test results

To truly understand Total Adblock's capabilities, I tested this provider with various third-party testing tools in addition to our in-house testing methods.

The in-house testing proved that this ad blocker is an excellent tool. It can block various pop-up and video ads and deliver great results even without a paid subscription. Total Adblock can also prevent YouTube ads on your browser and block Facebook ads and trackers.

In-house testing

In my tests, I used Total Adblock on various platforms like Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS. The setup process on desktops was very easy. I had to download the Total Adblock extension, which required only 3 steps to complete. I answered a few questions about what kind of ads I wanted to block, entered my login details to create an account, and I was ready to browse. The whole process took me less than 5 minutes.

From here on, my experience using Total Adblock was nothing but positive. I liked that I could choose what types of content I wanted to block. In the Allow List, I could add blocking for ads, privacy annoyances, social widgets, and cookie prompts. Total Adblock offers customization options and flexibility like I’ve never seen before. In comparison, other ad blockers, like Surfshark CleanWeb or NordVPN Threat Protection, allow minimal to no customization.

When using the Total Adblock browser extension, I was surprised how well it blocked pop-ups, pre-rolls, and video ads. After playing a video on YouTube, I didn’t encounter a single ad or website annoyance.

Accessing news platforms was also a breeze. I could enjoy reading BBC News and CNN articles without any annoying interruptions.

On mobile devices, the process was a bit more complicated. For Android, I downloaded its native app from the Google Play Store. From there, I had to create an account, choose my preferred notification settings, and watch a setup tutorial for Total Adblock. I found the whole process quite lengthy. As the last step, I installed the security certificate following the on-screen instructions and turned on the ad blocker.

Overall, my experience using Total Adblock was one of the best, compared to other providers. I liked that all ads were fully removed, without leaving strange residues in their place or interfering with the website structure. However, what might be annoying is that if you choose to try out its 7-day free trial, you’ll get native ads by Total Adblock itself. Also, I wish that the installation process for the mobile devices was easier.

Testing using independent testing tools

Independent testing tools showed varying results with Total Adblock, but overall, they were positive. While it did great with blocking ads, Total Adblock’s success rate with trackers was less impressive. The following tests were performed with the Total Adblock Chrome extension:

  • AdBlock Tester. This website floods you with many types of ads, and Total Adblock aced the test with a perfect score of 100/100.

  • Cover Your Tracks. This test focuses on trackers: blocking tracking ads, removing invisible trackers, and protecting from fingerprinting. Total Adblock successfully blocked tracking ads and invisible trackers. However, the browser still had a unique fingerprint.

  • Turtlecute. When I visited this website, Total Adblock’s performance wasn’t as good compared to AdBlock Tester and Cover Your Tracks. It blocked the ads with an accuracy of 69%, meaning that it failed to block 42 out of 135 trackers, including Google Analytics, ad scripts, loading errors, and social trackers.

Customer support

Total Adblock customer service is reachable using the various avenues you’d expect from a top-quality online product, regardless of your chosen pricing plan.

Total Adblock
Live chat ✅ Yes, but only during business hours
Email✅ Yes
Phone line✅ Yes
Knowledge base✅ Yes

To test Total Adblock’s customer support, I clicked on the Support tab in the extension, which redirected me to TotalAV’s help center. From there, I had to pick which product requires support – TotalAV's antivirus, password manager, VPN, or ad blocker.

The help center offers FAQ pages with answers to only the most frequently asked questions. However, if you don’t find the answer helpful, click on No, and then you’ll be redirected to the ticket form.

When I contacted the support agents with my questions, I had to wait for 2-3 minutes before being connected to an agent. However, the first agent seemed like a bot, and since they couldn’t help me, I was redirected to another agent to help me with my issue.

While Total Adblock has a phone line, it only offers phone line support for those seeking assistance with billing preferences. I was slightly disappointed, as I prefer communicating with customer support via the phone.

Total Adblock not working: troubleshooting guide

While using Total Adblock, you might encounter certain issues that require troubleshooting. Here are the most common instances of such issues:

  • “Harmful to Devices” alert. Since the Android app is limited to Samsung phones on the Google Play Store, you might have to download an APK file. As the APK file is outside the Google Play Store, phones tend to mark it as a dangerous app. However, the alert doesn’t mean that the file is dangerous. It’s only meant to inform you that the file contains features outside of what the Google Play Store allows. These features are necessary for Total Adblock to be able to block ads.
  • Unsuccessful payment. This error can mean anything: your bank blocked the transaction, you don’t have enough funds, or there’s a connection error. How to solve this problem is hard to answer – contact your bank or try again in a couple of minutes or the next day. Additionally, if you have a VPN, you can try to disable it or restart the device.
  • Subscription cancellation issues. Total Adblock has a simple guide with screenshots on its website to help you with cancellation. It includes instructions on how to uninstall the ad blocker and cancel your subscription based on the payment you used to purchase it.
