If I relied on Instagram for news


Dinner-table conversations at our house are weird. While my partner and I are both journalists, the stuff he learns throughout the day is completely different from what I’m exposed to, making a good example of how profoundly personalized our news streams have become.

38% of US citizens regularly get news from Facebook.

35% get news from YouTube.

20% rely on Instagram.

The trend is somewhat more troubling on social media sites with relatively small audiences. According to the Pew Research Center, 57% of X users get news directly from the platform, and 55% of Truth Social users get their news from the platform owned by President Donald Trump.

“Women are more likely to regularly get news from Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok, while men are more likely to say they get it from YouTube, X, and Reddit,” the research reads.

I don’t get news from Instagram myself. My Instagram feed is mostly filled with runners, parrots, and posts of my cherished friends. However, there’s one super cool news channel I follow, so here are the top 5 Cybernews posts over the last week that I found most interesting and that our readers engaged with the most.
