Senator Slotkin blasts Hasan Piker as too toxic, refuses to attend his livestream

United States Senator Elissa Slotkin has hit back at popular Twitch influencer Hasan Piker, refusing to appear on his show in principle.
Speaking to news outlet Politico, Slotkin brought up Piker’s previous controversies, where the streamer labeled Orthodox Jews as “inbred” and even stated that the US deserved 9/11.
While Slotkin hasn’t been directly invited onto Piker’s livestream, she made a broad claim that she had to “call balls and strikes” on controversial issues like antisemitism or Islamophobia, which would surely be on the agenda if she appeared on his Twitch channel.
However, Piker has previously expressed his disapproval of Democrats such as Slotkin appearing on the Bill Maher show.
“I mean, this double standard exists in American politics. Islamophobia is oftentimes not considered at all,” he told Politico.
Piker highly disapproves of comedian Maher, who is often seen as a vocal critic of Islam. This is a sensitive point for the streamer and something he has discussed on his livestreams.
Also included in Piker’s misgivings interview with Politico was a disapproval of senators, including Slotkin, “who don’t know who I am.”

When prompted by Politico on April 10th to give her take on the events, Slotkin specified:
“What normal human being would choose to go on a show when someone calls you ‘stupid’ every ten days? It’s not going to be something I do”

Who is Hasan Piker?
Amassing 2.8 million followers, Piker is one of the leading streamers on the popular platform Twitch. He often puts out 8-10-hour streams with socialist content peppered in his commentary.
Appealing to a largely male audience, predominantly under the age of 30, Piker is known for highly provocative statements, even comparing interviewing 19-year-old, former Houthi pirate Rashid al-Haddad to “talking to f–king Anne Frank, basically.”

Another Congress official. Richie Torres has even publicly identified Piker as “dangerous,” especially as the influencer appeared to play down rape incidents in the Hamas attacks on Israel on October 7th, 2023.
Piker often leads an extravagant lifestyle, driving a $2000,000 Porsche, and with The New York Times dubbing him “a progressive mind in a body made for the manosphere."
There is a perceived disconnect between the exuberant image of Piker and the bedroom gamer aesthetic he draws on. Last October, Piker was embroiled in more controversy as he allegedly used an electrical shock collar to tame his dog, Kaya, live on air.
