Patent reveals what could possibly be a new smartwatch blood pressure monitoring technology

Oppo, a Chinese electronics company, has filed a patent that could change the way that blood pressure is monitored through a smartwatch.

The patent revealed that the company is working on an airbag-based technology.

Right now, the way blood pressure is measured is through a smartwatch equipped with an air pump connected to an airbag, which is often placed in a device’s head. The airbag is then inflated through an air nozzle.

It has been reported that a similar system is already implemented by Huawei on its Watch D2.

However, it has been noticed that such a system takes up additional space in the smartwatch’s head. Because of this, the device then lacks room for other components, for example, sensors that could provide new functions.

In its patent, Oppo shifts the air path by integrating it into the device’s strap.

Once the smartwatch head is attached to the strap, it creates an air path. This means the device no longer needs a separate air nozzle, which would inflate the airbag during blood pressure monitoring.

The new technology is expected to ease the production of future watches as well as make way to add new features.

Despite the company being granted the patent, it’s not sure if the technology will be implemented in the future. It has been speculated that the technology could be implemented in Oppo’s future Watch X2.

At the same time, the company has been in a race to release the world’s thinnest foldable smartphone. It’s been reported that the device could be as thick as 4mm and have high water resistance.
