There are just hours to go until Amazon announces its latest hardware and software upgrades.
Amazon’s annual Devices and Services event is scheduled for September 30th, and the company is expected to launch its latest devices. Naturally, there’s plenty of speculation about what new gadgets we might see.
“Is anyone else on pins and needles while waiting for the revelation of the new tech? I was thinking they would stir interest much like the RMPP Move, but, I guess not,” said one Redditor.
The user was referring to the reMarkable Paper Pro Move, an e-ink tablet released earlier this month.
New Kindle on the way?
Amazon introduced its first color Kindle in October 2024, and users speculated that a new Kindle could be announced during the company’s upcoming event.
“A basic Kindle with a warm light would be a game changer,” noted one netizen. Others noted that they would love for the future e-reader to be in color and smaller.
“I need a color scribe!” wrote one user with another netizen, noting, “Well, if you look closely at the picture Amazon released, there is a new color device, and the quote on it is similar to that used on the original scribe.”
Kindle Scribe, Amazon’s digital notebook and reader, was first released in 2022, with the second-generation device being announced in 2024. The Amazon’s invite image hints that the latest device could be launched in color, as it includes a colored version of the Kindle logo as well as the words “with the” and “stroke of a pen,” notes The Verge.
Nevertheless, some users argued that the new Scribe needs a lot more than just a color upgrade.
“Amazon has a lot to fix with the Scribe, and adding colour is not top of my list. Just making the note-taking usable and useful would be a start,” wrote one user, adding that the e-notebook misses note linking, note search, and storing features, “proper export options,” just to name a few.

Echo product
While many netizens are focused on Amazon’s latest e-reader, the invitation image also hints at another possible product release: the company’s smart speaker, Echo.
The voice-controlled speaker was first introduced in 2014, with its latest, 4th-generation device introduced in 2020.
At the top right of Amazon’s invite, the company shows a blue circle in a black background, perhaps hinting at Amazon’s Echo Studio device.
Alexa software update
Earlier this year, Amazon launched Alexa+, a smarter voice assistant that not only plays music and switches on the light, but also orders groceries, schedules appointments, and more.
However, it was reported that the newly launched Alexa+ struggled to find its audience. The assistant took time to proceed and struggled to answer questions and prompts quickly.
The future event may provide users with some updates concerning Alexa+'s future.
Amazon Fire TV
The hint-rich Amazon invite also suggests that the company may announce news related to its Fire TV digital media player.
But this wouldn’t be the only TV-related announcement, as the company has also been working on the Vega operating system, which could replace the current Fire TV OS, reports Janko Roettgers from Lowpass.
The new operating system is expected to support the TV hardware by the end of this year.
