Redditor hints at Apple Intelligence appearing in Europe

While Apple’s AI is already in the testing phase, its future in Europe is still unclear.

The initial excitement around Apple’s AI assistant seemed to subside after news emerged that it would come with some limitations. For example, it won’t be accessible on older iPhones and will now be released later than expected – not until after the release of iPhone 16 in September.

Among the issues disrupting Apple’s smooth integration of Apple Intelligence is its unavailability in Europe. This is largely due to the Digital Markets Act (DMA) and its strict requirements, which the company might find tricky to comply with.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding Apple Intelligence's future in Europe, Reddit user @Erik9722 recently shared that its beta variant has also been released here.

“I have a Dutch Apple ID, region, and language set to English (US). I have not gotten this option before since the 18.1 beta was released, so Apple must have switched something,” shared the Redditor.

He said that when he checked his Apple Intelligence section, he could join the waitlist and use the feature after a few minutes.

The post has prompted a discussion online with users sharing their own experience with Apple’s AI accessibility.

While the original post has sparked hope that the feature will be accessible in Europe, some users shared that it doesn’t work.

“From Switzerland, I had it from the beginning. However, once I click “continue” nothing actually happens, so no, it doesn’t really work, unfortunately,” shared one Reddit user.

“Weirdly, it’s started working on my iPad but doesn’t work on my iPhone (both eligible devices and, of course, set to US everywhere but located in Germany),” noted another Redditor.

Another Apple user explained the reason for such confusion: “I’m not sure if you received the update because it was released in the EU. In the “about” section, it says, ‘Both the device language and Siri language must be set to US English, and the device region must be set to the United States.’ Maybe by just doing that, it worked for you?”

It's unclear whether European users will be able to fully experience Apple’s newest features, and the situation is already raising questions about a possible division between tech users.
