Good as new? Google Store sells refurbished Pixel smartphones

Users can buy used Pixel smartphones through the Google Store, saving them a few hundred dollars.

Google announced its US-based Certified Refurbished Phone program, which allows buyers to purchase Pixel smartphones at up to 40% off the original retail price.

For now, users can select the Pixel 6 up to the Pixel 7 Pro models, but Google plans to expand this selection over time.

Google’s refurbished Pixel phones are inspected for battery, housing, and screen defects. Only authentic Google parts are used for repairs.

When placed for sale, each phone comes with the latest Android software and is packaged in a new 100 % plastic-free packaging with a compatible charger.

The refurbished phones also get a one-year warranty and full customer support.

Right now, a new Google Pixel 7 Pro costs $899, while the same refurbished model costs $629.

The company says its program has been created in an effort to reduce electronic waste.

Recently, Google introduced another program called the Longevity GFR (Google Requirements Freeze) program, which extends Android phone software updates from three years to seven years. This way, smartphones don’t have to be replaced every few years.
