Apple says its AI will work by default, but more people are finding reasons to deactivate it.
When iOS18 was first introduced, Apple Intelligence was a much-awaited feature.
It was soon revealed that only users with the latest Apple smartphones, such as iPhone 15 and iPhone 16, could use the feature. Not only that, users also had to join a waiting list to use the new AI-powered features.
Now, with the release of the latest software update, iOS18.3, this feature will become the default.
"For users new or upgrading to iOS 18.3, Apple Intelligence will be enabled automatically during iPhone onboarding," shared Apple.
The change will affect those who are in parts of the world where Apple's AI is available.
This is similar to another bump in the road when it was announced that Apple Intelligence won't be available for European Union users due to the Digital Markets Act and its antitrust legislation.
The released software version available to developers and public beta community members is marked as Release Candidate (RC), meaning it's still in the testing phase.
While Apple Intelligence was a much-advertised and awaited feature, users were quick to share its flaws after its release.
For example, one of Apple's features is email prioritization, which shows the most important emails first. However, instead of providing users with doctor's appointments or dinner reservations, the first thing users saw was phishing emails.
Apple Intelligence has also been under the radar for providing inaccurate search results. It's been reported that Apple's AI has been showing false headlines, one of which claimed that Luigi Mangione, the UnitedHealthcare shooter, had shot himself, which wasn't true.
Users online reported numerous other cases where Apple Intelligence failed to provide a correct answer or an accurate summary.
This made Apple users want to opt out of the AI feature, stating that it brings no value to them. To disable the feature, users have to go to their smartphone settings, find Apple Intelligence & Siri, and turn off all its features.
If users want to disable only some of the AI features, they can do so by going to the Settings app first and scrolling down to Notifications. Here, they’ll find Summarize Previews, where they can turn off features for individual apps.
