On Thursday, Nintendo released a two-and-a-half-minute trailer showcasing its latest console, the Nintendo Switch 2.
The video depicts a slightly larger console than the original one, with thinner bezels and two magnetically attached Joy-Con controllers, which are also bigger in size.
One of the controllers features a new button and a USB-C port next to an audio jack on the top of the console.
At the end of the video, there is a brief scene from a Mario Kart game. Nintendo claims that the new console will play physical and digital Nintendo Switch 2 games, though certain Nintendo Switch games may not be supported or fully compatible.
The company says that the Switch 2 will be released this year without specifying the exact date. More information will be disclosed on April 2nd in the company’s “Nintendo Direct: Nintendo Switch 2” event.
There will also be North American events in locations like New York, Los Angeles, Dallas, and Toronto, as well as over a dozen cities in other parts of the world, allowing you to get hands-on experience in April.
The gaming community has been anticipating the release of the Switch 2 for a few years. Earlier this week, a podcaster accurately announced that it would be released on January 16th, 2025.
However, some details were leaked ahead of the launch as accessory maker Genki brought a 3D-printed mockup of the console. Nintendo lawyers reportedly confronted the company at the show.
The original Nintendo Switch was announced in 2016 and released in March 2017.
