OpenAI hints at AI-powered search engine ‘SearchGPT’

OpenAI is attempting to combine real-time web information with its artificial intelligence (AI) model’s "conversational capabilities" to give users the best of both worlds.

OpenAI is testing its SearchGPT prototype with "new AI search features that give you fast and timely answers with clear and relevant sources."

A group of users and publishers are testing the prototype and will provide feedback to OpenAI. The company then plans to integrate the best of its features into ChatGPT.

With SearchGPT, the company is trying to provide users with information “faster and easier” by employing its easy-to-understand AI models and the latest web data.

SearchGPT would also add relevant links for further research and allow users to ask follow-up questions.

The company emphasizes its cooperation with publishers and their work to connect them with users, promising to "[launch] a way for publishers to manage how they appear in SearchGPT, so publishers have more choices."

Just a few months ago, OpenAI released its newest upgrade, GPT-4o. Now, the news about the company's new project comes nearly at the same time as its competitor Google's update of Gemini 1.5 Flash, reflecting not only on the fast-paced growth of AI but also on the ongoing race between AI model creators.
