Both Samsung and Apple have been working on their slimmest smartphones, which we can expect to see later this year.
According to multiple rumors, Samsung’s Galaxy Slim is likely to be unveiled sometime this spring. Meanwhile, Apple is expected to debut its smartphone in September, along with the launch of the iPhone 17.
Some of the latest leaks show how these two smartphones stack up in one key metric: thickness.
Leaker Ice Universe published an image depicting how the Galaxy Slim compares to other Galaxy Series smartphones, which are soon to be unveiled at the Samsung Unpacked event.
According to the image, the Slim model will be 6.4 mm thick, which is consistent with some previous leaks suggesting a thickness ranging between 6 and 7 mm.

The main limitations for Samsung to make the device slimmer are its camera and battery.
One of the leaks spotted by Sammobile suggests that Samsung’s slimmest smartphone could come with a triple camera setup featuring a 200MP main shooter, plus a 50MP telephoto and 50MP wide-angle cameras. It will also be equipped with a 4,700 - 5,000 mAh battery.
However, previous rumors suggest that the battery capacity could range between 3,000 mAh and 4,000 mAh.
Meanwhile, Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims that the iPhone 17 Air will be just 5.5 mm thick at its thickest point (excluding the camera bump).
The thickness will result in a few limitations. The smartphone, for example, is rumored to feature only one 48MP main camera, something we haven’t seen in an iPhone since the launch of the iPhone XR in 2018.
In addition, the device is said to come with only a single speaker and a battery with a capacity ranging from 3,000 mAh to 4,000 mAh.
