Future Samsung Galaxy smart ring may give more control over your devices

The company’s next smart ring could expand its features.

Samsung debuted its first smart ring in the summer of 2024. This year, during the company’s Unpacked event, the company was expected to release the second Galaxy ring. However, only the company’s latest smartphones have so far been pushed to the market.

A recently published patent shows the possible new features that the next Samsung smart ring could have, and they've piqued the interest of many onlookers.

The document, named “Electronic device and screen control method using input device,” hints that the future device could be used to control other devices such as tablets and laptops.

According to the patent, the smart ring would allow users to move items from one display to another, similar to what Apple devices do. It could also allow users to share files between two devices.

Samsung’s S Pen can already control media, zoom in, and change slides in PowerPoint. However, it cannot move items from one device to another.

The document also suggests that the future smart ring and other devices could be connected via the same wireless network.

As with many patents, it's not yet known whether the company will actually implement these ideas into its next smart ring.

Samsung isn’t the first to file a patent in regards to a smart ring that offers more than just health and fitness related monitoring. Apple has also been hinting at creating a smart ring that would be compatible with its other devices, such as Vision Pro, Mac, or TV.

Apple also filed a document that showcases a smart ring capable of controlling every device in the house, whether a personal device or a home appliance.
