Samsung says you can fold your Galaxy Z Fold 7 500,000 times without breaking it

Thinking of getting Samsung’s latest foldable smartphone, but not sure if it’ll go the distance? Experts have already put it to the test, so you don’t have to.
During Samsung Unpacked 2025, the company announced the release of its three smartphones, Galaxy Flip 7, Galaxy Fold 7, and Galaxy Flip 7 FE.
The devices, which are now available to pre-order, should appear in stores on July 25th. As always, some skeptics aren’t sure whether Samsung’s new phones, especially the Galaxy Fold 7, are worth the price. Luckily, they can already gain some insight into their durability.
Samsung’s latest foldable, Galaxy Fold 7, was recently tested by the global testing and certification company Bureau Veritas.
It’s been reported that Samsung Display raised its durability testing rating from 200,000 to 500,000 folds to prove the resilience of its panel, which is now found in its latest smartphone.
The test showed that the device’s panel remained functional after being folded 500,000 times over 13 days at 25°C (77°F).
Five hundred thousand folds is equivalent to more than ten years for an average user who would fold the phone 100 times a day, and over six years for a “heavy user,” expecting them to fold it more than 200 times a day.
According to the company, this test shows that durability is no longer a factor in determining the length of time the foldable device can be used.
This level of durability has been achieved through the use of Samsung Display’s developed “shock-resistant structure,” which was created following the “design principles of bulletproof glass.”
The company increased the thickness of its outermost ultra-thin glass (UTG) by 50% and applied high-elastic adhesive to each layer inside the OLED panel so that it could better absorb any external impact.
Samsung also revealed that its display can “distribute shock evenly across the panel.” It also used a titanium plate for better display support, making the device look slimmer, yet more protected.
The previous Samsung foldable was rated for 200,000 folds. However, after a test in which a machine opened and folded the first Z Fold smartphone for hours, it lasted 119,380 folds, reports Engadget.
