Samsung Unpacked 2025: my first impressions on the latest Galaxy foldables and wearables

In this year's Samsung Unpacked 2025 event, the company is focusing on making its foldable smartphones thinner and lighter.

It might seem like tech companies are finding it harder to create groundbreaking smartphones with each release. This is why Samsung’s latest foldables, the Galaxy Fold 7, Galaxy Flip 7, and Galaxy Flip 7 FE, focus on being thinner and lighter and are equipped with more capable artificial intelligence.

Samsung Galaxy Fold 7: a smartphone for everyday tasks

This year, Samsung’s book-like foldable is being praised for its size and weight. The new device is 25% thinner than its predecessor, the Fold 6. It measures 8.9mm when closed and 4.2mm when opened, in comparison to the Fold 6, which is 12.1mm when closed and 5.6mm when opened.

It’s been stated that when closed, the smartphone is a similar size to a standard smartphone, but once opened, it becomes even thinner than a tablet.

We at Cybernews also had the opportunity to hold the new Samsung foldable. As an owner of an iPhone 16 Pro that weighs around 200 grams, I wasn’t surprised by its Galaxy Fold 7 weight.

The new smartphone now weighs 215 grams, making it 24 grams lighter than the Fold 6 smartphone.

What I did notice was its size, which made the smartphone feel like a remote control. It seemed long and thin, even though the device now also has a wider screen (72.8mm), which is wider than the iPhone 16 (71.6mm). This way, users can see more information and chat more comfortably.

When it comes to the smartphone’s other specifications, it includes the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite processor.

The smartphone also includes a 200MP camera that is 4 times more detailed and 44% brighter than the Fold 6.

Samsung Galaxy Flip 7: a smartphone that fits

The Samsung Galaxy Flip 7 is much more compact than its predecessor. It weighs 188 grams and is 13.7mm thick when closed, making it easier to keep in a pocket.

The smartphone includes Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 to ensure greater resistance. The smartphone caught my attention due to its small size. After trying the smartphone, I noticed that its hinges make it quite hard to close quickly.

The Flip 7 is also equipped with the biggest battery in Flip history, which allows users to watch up to 31 hours of video content with a single charge.

Its front display allows users to quickly check the most important information, reply to messages, or check their calendar without even opening the phone.

When it comes to its capabilities, it stands out from its predecessor due to its enhanced AI capabilities. Flip 7 users can use the device to summon Gemini Live without having to open the phone. This feature is supposed to help users when they can’t use the phone. For example, while a person is driving and they need to know how to get to a restaurant or some other place.

Samsung Galaxy Flip 7 FE: budget-friendly option

Recently, it was shared that Samsung may also introduce a budget addition to its Galaxy foldable series.

The company also issued the Samsung Galaxy Flip 7 SE, a budget-friendly smartphone with a Dynamic AMOLED display and 50MP Flex Cam, which allows users to take high-quality pictures and videos.

The pre-orders of Samsung Galaxy foldables start from July 9th, with sales starting on July 25th.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 8: Sleeker design and enhanced health monitoring

Samsung has introduced its latest smartwatch lineup – the Galaxy Watch 8 and Galaxy Watch 8 Classic – bringing a slimmer profile and advanced health features.

For the first time, Samsung has included an antioxidant index measurement, designed to help users monitor aging processes. To check your antioxidant level, simply place your finger on the sensor for five seconds, and the watch will display a score between 1 and 100.

As expected from modern wearables, the Galaxy Watch 8 series also tracks your sleep and can suggest personalized training programs. A new awareness tracking feature monitors your mood and offers breathing exercises to help reduce stress.

The Galaxy Watch 8 series is also the first to feature the integrated Google Gemini voice assistant, enabling smarter and more convenient hands-free control.

Design-wise, the Galaxy Watch 8 is 11% thinner than previous models and comes in 44mm and 40mm sizes. The Galaxy Watch 8 Classic adds an extra button for improved control, features a rotating frame dial, and is available in a 46mm size.

With its combination of refined aesthetics and innovative health tools, the Galaxy Watch 8 series sets a new standard for smartwatches.
