The Mozilla Foundation, a non-profit organization that oversees the Firefox web browser through its corporate subsidiary, is laying off 30% of its workforce, TechCrunch reports.
This is the second round of layoffs in 2024, following earlier cuts in February when dozens of employees were let go due to refocusing on the web browser and AI.
The number of employees before the current reduction was close to 120. The layoffs will affect around 40 people.
According to Mozilla Foundation’s statement to TechCrunch, the reorganization aims to “increase agility and impact.”
The non-profit supports and collectively leads the open-source Mozilla project. It owns two subsidiaries – one developing the Firefox web browser and another maintaining the Thunderbird email client.
