Don’t you know what music you want to hear? Or do you wish to learn more about your favorite artist? From now on, selected Premium users can ask Spotify to enhance their listening experience with the newly introduced Talk to Spotify feature.
When navigating to the Home screen or Now Playing tab on Spotify’s mobile app, eligible Premium users will see the Talk to Spotify field.
They can have a conversation with the music streaming service to choose what to play, learn more about the music they love, revisit their listening history, and go deeper on podcasts and audiobooks without leaving Spotify.
All they have to do is simply type a question or press the microphone icon and talk. For example, Spotify Premium users can ask the platform to play some artists they’ve never heard before, to play a “more upbeat” music genre, or to save a song or artist to their playlist.
Talk to Spotify also offers more context. While listening to music, a podcast, or an audiobook, users can ask about the artists, authors, their stories, or other background information.
Lastly, Spotify’s newest feature lets Premium users explore their listening history to see which artists or music genres they’ve been listening to lately.
“The new conversational experience is part of our ongoing work to make Spotify more personal and useful for every listener, giving people more ways to get the most out of every moment,” Spotify explains in a blog post.
Talk to Spotify will gradually roll out in beta for 18+ Spotify Premium users in Ireland, the United States, and Sweden across Android and iOS devices in English. The music streaming service doesn’t say when the feature will be launched in other countries, or if it will be available in other languages.

Spotify has been transparent about the use of AI to improve its services. Back in February, Gustav Söderström, Spotify’s CEO, shared that Spotify’s developers haven’t written “a single line of code since December.”
Another AI-powered feature on Spotify is “Prompted Playlist,” which allows users to describe exactly what they want to listen to.
At the same time, Spotify is fighting tooth and nail to fight off AI-generated music. Last year, Spotify disclosed that it had removed over 75 million AI-generated tracks from its platform.
“At its best, AI is unlocking incredible new ways for artists to create music and for listeners to discover it. At its worst, AI can be used by bad actors and content farms to confuse or deceive listeners, push ‘slop’ into the ecosystem, and interfere with authentic artists working to build their careers,” the platform said at the time.
