A mysterious object with multicolored LED lights was filmed hovering above the Iranian capital of Tehran on September 20th, sparking astonished reactions across social media.
One of the posts on X pinpointed the craft's location near the Azadegan Expressway in Tehran, though there is currently no official confirmation of the object’s distance, altitude, speed, or size.
The video has gained attention as it emerged amid heightened tensions involving Iran, the US, and other countries in the region, with Iranian military officials issuing fresh warnings on September 20th about potential attacks on US bases.
The 14-second UAP clip shows vibrant lights of what appears to be a relatively low-flying craft and was awash with attention and comments on social media.

For example, some Redditors in the r/UFO group speculated that it could be a military craft. “It could be drones flying in formation,” speculated one user, while another reasoned that “we never see UFOs or UAPs with RGB (red, green, and blue) lights.”
Others, however, tussled over the possibility that it could be a multicolored kite, with one observer pointing to the seemingly low altitude at which the UAP was flying as evidence.
Two disagreeing Redditors chimed in, with one doubting that locals would fly a kite in a warzone at 10 p.m.
Another skeptic pointed out that a kite, at night, “can look completely stationary in the sky.”
A historical parallel
An enigmatic coincidence people picked up on was the resemblance to a UFO incident on September 19th, 1976, in which locals reported a multicolored craft.
Iranian fighter jets were also deployed for investigation at the time, though the logging of the incident comes from US government records.
And, as this is remembered as one of the most “credible” spottings among so-called ufologists, the comparisons seem inevitable.
As political tensions between the US and Iran continue to ramp up, discussions of what the actual aircraft was, along with conspiracy theories, look set to continue.
Until more official classification and verification become available, however, the speculation remains as kaleidoscopic guesswork, at best.
