Dutch retail store De Bijenkorf has warned customers about a potential data breach at an external logistics partner, involving the personal information of an undisclosed number of clients.
An “unauthorized party” succeeded in gaining access to parts of the external partner’s IT systems. A third-party cybersecurity firm is currently investigating the cause, scope, and impact of the incident.
Preliminary research suggests that the attackers may have stolen personal information from some of De Bijenkorf’s customers, including:
- Names
- Physical addresses
- Email addresses
- Phone numbers
- Order histories
- Business customer names and VAT numbers
No payment details, bank account numbers, credit card details, usernames, or passwords have been exfiltrated. As a precaution, De Bijenkorf has filed a report with the Dutch data protection authority.
According to a press release, the affected logistics partner intervened immediately by blocking access to its digital environment. It also took additional security measures to prevent a recurrence.

Customers may experience longer-than-usual processing times for orders, returns, or refunds. Stores remain open, and customers can place online orders.
“The incident occurred with an external partner. We immediately investigated whether our own systems were affected. Based on the information currently available, we have no indication that this is the case. The investigation is still ongoing, and we continue to monitor the situation closely,” De Bijenkorf states.
Affected customers should be aware of phishing attempts and other forms of online fraud, the department store warns. This means that you should never share your password, payment details, or other personal information via email or phone.
