Another app that iPad users have been waiting for 15 years could be introduced this year

Meta could be launching its Instagram app on the iPad this year.

Instagram is one of the most used social media platforms, with around two billion monthly active users. The wildly popular app has been downloaded almost four billion times.

Despite the platform’s success, it's been known for years that Instagram doesn’t have a dedicated app suited for iPads.

That’s about to change as it’s been reported that Meta is finally working on delivering one.

According to Bloomberg, employees at Meta Platforms Inc. are already testing the app, which could be released this year.

The reason behind not having an Instagram app suited for iPads dates back to 2010, when Mark Zuckerberg shared that his social media platform, Facebook, wouldn’t have an app on iPads since they are considered computers, and thus users can log into Facebook via the web.

He changed his stance in 2011 when the Facebook app came to the iPad.

However, the same wasn’t done with Instagram because the company was concerned about how its interface would look on an iPad and also about the quality of images on the bigger screen.

Just recently, Meta has issued a dedicated WhatsApp application for iPad users. The development of the app took a while because of privacy-related concerns, as the company had to ensure that its end-to-end encryption was securely synchronized across all devices.
