Democrats ask, are you in your “voting era?” with new Taylor Swift-themed Snapchat filter

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) has launched a Taylor Swift-themed Snapchat filter, aiming to attract the attention of young voters in swing states.

While Donald Trump is out flipping burgers and serving fries at McDonald's, Kamala Harris is trying to attract the attention of a variety of voters in a different, perhaps more relatable way.

The DNC has launched its own Snapchat filter, which is Taylor Swift-inspired. The filter reads, “I’m in my voting era,” and other mantras that help showcase Harris’ campaign.

The filter also includes the phrase “Be fearless for…” which is unfinished. Users then have to swipe through a range of prominent issues that Harris promises to tackle, such as reproductive rights, climate change, racial justice, and student debt relief, and finish the sentence, said Mashable.

The filter also allows users to check out IWillVote.com, the Democrat Party’s official educational website, where people can learn how to vote in this year's upcoming election.

Snapchat has approximately 800 million monthly active users, an eighth of which come from the United States (over 100 million).

According to Mashable, this is the first Snapchat filter that the DNC has released this election cycle. It’s a strategic play that’s aimed at young voters, the LGBTQ+ community, and others who are more inclined to use social media platforms like Snapchat.

Rolling Stone reported that billboards have been placed outside of venues where Taylor Swift has performed in the hopes of getting Swifties to vote Harris.

Swift played three sold-out shows last week to an audience of almost 200,000 fans in Miami.

As Trump is fractionally ahead on votes in Florida, this may be the last attempt for Harris to secure the state and securing votes from a large voting pool – Swifties.

Taylor’s role in the election

Some people believe that Taylor Swift is a Pentagon asset used to shift people’s voting preferences.

There was even a story that Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift were only together to influence young voters.

These are just some of the more bizarre narratives circulating around the internet.

But what is her role in the US presidential elections?

Swift officially endorsed Kamala Harris in September 2024, which she announced over Instagram and signed the “childless cat lady,” a reference to comments made by Donald Trump’s vice president pick JD Vance.

The pop star said that she was voting for Harris because the presidential candidate “fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them,” the BBC reported.

Swifties aren’t a rare breed, as Taylor has roughly 100 million monthly listeners on Spotify and a ridiculously large fanbase.

Hence why, Harris is capitalizing on her huge fanbase and seeing it as an untapped pool of potential voters.

Whether or not Swift is a Pentagon asset, which is highly unlikely, she certainly holds influence.
