Microsoft now lets you access its o1 model for free on Copilot

Copilot users can now try the ‘Think Deeper’ feature based on Open AI’s o1.

Days after DeepSeek and a few other Chinese companies released new powerful large language models (LLM), Microsoft is making its o1 model accessible for free.

Micorosft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman has announced on LinkedIn that the company is making o1-based ‘Think Deeper’ accessible for all Copilot users.

Open AI’s o1 model is designed to spend more time thinking before it responds compared to previous models. However, it can reason, solving harder problems in science, coding, and math than previous AI models.

According to Suleyman, o1-based ‘Think Deeper’ can be used for various daily tasks, such as planning projects, getting advice on career changes, and researching topics.

Previously, the o1 model was available only to paid subscribers including ChatGPT Plus and Copilot Pro.

Users can access the ‘Think Deeper’ feature by signing in to their Microsoft account and choosing “Think Deeper” on Copilot.

Microsoft made the tool available for free days after Chinese companies released their powerful open-source models, bringing more competition to the fast-changing AI field.

Chinese startups DeepSeek and Alibaba allow users to access their models for free, while Alibaba offers agent functionality for direct computer and phone use, which can be accessed on OpenAI only under a paywall.

This may prompt OpenAI and other companies to enable more ways to access their models for free to stay competitive.
