WhatsApp has warned older iPhone model users that it will end app support for their devices next year.
The Apple smartphone models facing the cut are iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6s.
Users who still use these smartphones will no longer be able to access WhatsApp because the devices can’t receive the upgraded operating software that the app requires to function properly.
The iPhone 5s was first launched in 2013, and the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s were released in 2014. All three models have already been added to Apple’s vintage and/or obsolete product list.
The changes should be implemented starting next year, on May 5th, 2025.
All other models should be compatible as long as they have the latest available iOS version installed, writes WABetaInfo.
For a while, the app was able to run on iOS 12 and later. However, its upcoming updates will require iOS 15.1 or later to work seamlessly and provide users with the latest features.
The earliest iPhone model that runs iOS 15.1 is the iPhone 7. Users of this Apple model and later will still be able to use WhatsApp.
