NordVPN has received the highest overall results in a new independent assessment by West Coast Labs (WCL). The testing firm evaluated five major VPN providers under AMTSO (Anti-Malware Testing Standards Organization) guidelines. NordVPN led in speed, leak protection, connection time, and overall system efficiency.
The evaluation used Windows 11 Pro and macOS Sonoma devices on a 1Gbps connection. West Coast Labs measured performance across six technical categories. NordVPN achieved industry-leading results in almost every area while maintaining reliable functionality and low system resource impact.
NordVPN delivers highest scores in key technical tests
West Coast Labs confirmed that all five VPN services passed core functionality checks. These covered launch on boot, internet kill switch, and split tunneling. Each provider earned a 100% reliability score.
Speed testing showed the most notable difference. NordVPN reached an average download speed of 817Mbps and outperformed competitors by margins ranging from 29Mbps to 92Mbps. Its NordLynx protocol also added only 3ms of latency, which placed it first for responsiveness.
The security leak assessment repeated 455 network transitions across eight leak scenarios. These included IP, DNS, WebRTC, and IPv6 leak checks. The tests also covered server switching and Wi-Fi changes. NordVPN recorded zero leaks, showing complete protection under real-world conditions.
Website accessibility results further separated the field. The assessment checked access to 100 high-traffic websites. NordVPN encountered only two CAPTCHA events and maintained full access across all sites. It tied for the best score in the category with a 98% friction-free browsing rate.
Connection speed testing also placed NordVPN at the top. It connected in an average of 0.66 seconds across all locations. This was 2.4 times faster than the second-place provider. It was nearly five times faster than the slowest service tested.
System impact testing measured CPU and memory usage during active browsing. NordVPN added only 0.64 percent CPU load and used an additional 510MB of memory. This result positioned it second overall for resource efficiency, showing low performance needs.
Industry response
Marijus Briedis, CTO at NordVPN, said the results reflect the company’s ongoing development efforts. He noted that the combination of high speed, zero leaks, and quick connection times shows NordVPN’s commitment to user security without sacrificing usability. He described the findings as confirmation that the service continues to improve its technical foundation.
West Coast Labs is widely recognized for independent cybersecurity testing. The organization focuses on real-world threat environments and controlled evaluation standards. Certification and positive rankings from WCL are regarded as meaningful indicators of product quality across the cybersecurity sector.
What this means for VPN users
The evaluation highlights several areas where VPN performance matters most. Speed affects streaming, downloads, and general browsing. Connection stability and leak protection support user privacy during network changes. Low system impact helps ensure smooth performance on everyday devices.
NordVPN’s results show consistent strength across these categories. The results show that NordVPN maintains user privacy while staying fast and accessible. For users comparing VPN options in 2025, the WCL report provides independent confirmation of performance differences in a competitive market.
Conclusion
The West Coast Labs assessment positions NordVPN as the strongest overall performer among the five VPN services tested. The results show fast speeds, zero leaks, and low system impact. The evaluation confirms NordVPN’s technical stability and security for everyday users.
