Gigi Hadid’s father fooled by AI deepfake that looks nothing like his daughter

Mohamed Hadid was quick to comment on his supermodel daughter’s appearance at the 2026 Met Gala, until the post was taken down shortly after.
Like many internet users, Mohamed Hadid was tricked into thinking that a woman appearing to be on the Met Gala carpet was his daughter.
Mohamed proudly took to social media to comment on Gigi’s supposed Met Gala look.
On Instagram, Mohamed Hadid posted an image that looked similar to Gigi Hadid, saying that she “looks like she just came out of a frame from a museum” and that this is another “classic Hadid moment.”
While Gigi Hadid did attend the Met Gala – for an 11th year running – she wore a completely different look from the one in the photo her father posted. The supermodel posed on the red carpet wearing a couture Miu Miu dress, which was custom-made for her just two days before the Met Gala.
Mohamed soon realized that he had been fooled by an AI deepfake and swiftly took the post down, but not until a user screenshotted it and reposted it to Reddit.
Mohamed Hadid (Gigi and Bella Hadid’s dad), posted an AI generated image of Gigi attending the Met Gala, thinking it was real.

Reddit users were quick to say that the AI-generated person in the image looks nothing like Gigi Hadid.
“Looks nothing like Gigi, which cracks me up,” said one Redditor.
“This doesn’t even almost resemble Gigi,” another person said.
“Imagine not knowing what your daughter looks like,” echoed another Reddit user.
While Mohamed didn’t explicitly mention his daughter Gigi in the initial post, it’s clear that the Palestinian-American real estate developer believed it was one of his daughters.
However, his second supermodel daughter, Bella Hadid, wasn’t present at the Met Gala.
It’s rumored that Bella boycotted the event after she shared a video from internet personality Meredith Lynch, who criticized other celebrities by saying that “you can’t wear the ICE out pin to the Jeff Bezos-backed Met Gala,” according to Harper’s Bazaar.
Although this AI deepfake is particularly poor, Mohamed seemingly confused the AI avatar with his first daughter.
A similar thing happened around the time of the 2024 Met Gala.
An image of the popstar and now “astronaut” Katy Perry went viral online despite Perry not attending the event.
Perry’s own mother was convinced by the photos, stating that the E.T singer looked like “the Rose Parade.”
The next year, Perry poked fun at the AI deepfake trend by posting an array of AI-generated looks, posing as if she wore all of them to the 2025 Met Gala.
