GTA 6 will cost $79.99… or $99.99 for premium edition

Rockstar Games has finally announced the price tag for its Grand Theft Auto VI, arguably the most anticipated game of the year.

A standard version of the game is set to cost $79.99 and the more expensive “Ultimate Edition” will be priced at $99.99. Players can start pre-ordering the game starting midnight June 25th.

The release date of GTA 6 is scheduled for November 19th, with players who pre-order the digital version of the game able to begin pre-loading on November 12th to ensure they are able to play at launch, according to Rockstar Games.

The developer also said that physical copies of the game will contain a code for a digital download rather than a physical disc, and will also start shipping a week before the official launch date.

All those who pre-order the game before November 20th will get the Vintage Vice City Pack that will include a collection of items referencing GTA: Vice City, released in 2002.

Digital pre-orders will also include a free month of GTA Plus subscription, while the premium edition will also come with “an exclusive collection of premium vehicles, weapons, apparel, and action,” according to Rockstar.

GTA 6 will be released as a single player experience to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

“They’re buying it anyway”

With both console and game prices going up over the past year, there was little surprise among the fans about the pricing. “Whether it’s $100 or $200, nobody’s gonna care, they’re buying it anyway,” one X user posted under Rockstar’s announcement.

While price wasn’t much of a contention point, some fans criticized Rockstar’s decision to release the game in standard and premium editions. Users said it was “ridiculous” and “criminal” to lock features behind an additional paywall in an offline game.

Many, however, were willing to overlook any issues related to pricing or marketing after years of waiting for a game that some analysts say could be the most expensive ever made.

GTA 5 has sold 230 million copies since its release in 2013 and fans have been expecting a follow-up ever since.

Rockstar confirmed it was working on GTA 6 in February 2022 and delayed the date of the game’s release twice, leading to online jokes and even an attempt by a fan to break into Rockstar headquarters in Edinburgh, Scotland.
