OpenAI planning 12 days of shipmas

Festive time is indeed artificial, so what better way to celebrate than OpenAI’s announcement of a daily product or service being launched?

The Verge has revealed that these virtual stocking fillers will be announced via livestream or demo and include a multitude of stuffings including the launch of text-to-video tool Sora, a much-improved reasoning tool and even a Santa generated voice in advanced mode.

Sora can generate videos up to a minute long. While not perfect, it’s available to premium users and is expected to rival Google’s Veo service – creating a kind of video race between the two.

Also expected in this festive medley is the updated reasoning model, part of OpenAI’s o1 series, which will help crack complex problems in science, mathematics, and coding.

ChatGPT Enterprise and Education users are expected to gain access to this feature soon. One can envision businesses and educational institutions moving away from the drawing board or textbook and embracing more sophisticated problem-solving methods.

Throw into the mix a Santa-generated voice, and it’s some next-level stuff – no need to take the kids to the mall to see Kris Kringle anymore.

Curiously, when asking ChatGPT itself to speculate on what could be launched, it suggested ideas like better integration of file uploads (e.g., PDFs and spreadsheets), fine-tuned industry models (e.g., legal or healthcare-specific), meeting participant features (e.g., better summaries in Zoom or Slack), ethical AI training for schools and businesses, and improving global accessibility to reach remote areas of the world.

So, watch this space for further announcements as they unfold, because if your true love doesn't bring you a partridge in a pear tree, at least it might bring you a reasoning model that can explain why the partridge is even in the tree in the first place.
