Influencer Perez Hilton has been hospitalized after reportedly engaging in self-harm during a livestream on TikTok, during which concerned viewers alerted the authorities.

The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office said deputies responded after reports of a man who was "livestreaming acts of self-harm on social media."

When officers arrived, they found some of Hilton's family members outside his Miami home, while he was alone inside. The officers stopped short of entering by force, however, and instead employed a passive approach to avoid startling Hilton or escalating the situation.

Hilton's management apparently tried to contact him multiple times, but was unable to do so. After the event, they requested privacy for Hilton's family and prioritized the celebrity's recovery.

Hilton is currently staying in a local hospital, where it is hoped that getting medical attention will aid his recovery.

The TikTok account of the influencer was removed shortly after the event.

Rebuilding credibility

Perez Hilton, whose real name is Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr., became one of the internet's biggest celebrity bloggers during the mid-2000s. His name was a play on the popular celebrity Paris Hilton, who dominated the celebrity sphere when he launched his blog.

His website drew a large audience, featuring celebrity commentary and pop culture posts. Hilton often covered blunt content that criticized celebrities such as Kim Kardashian, Miley Cyrus, and Lady Gaga.

The blog then faded in the years that followed, but Hilton maintained his public image through regular TV interviews and various podcast appearances.

In 2020, he backtracked on his criticism by expressing regret in a memoir. Hilton wrote, "I have a ton of regrets... I never needed to be so mean or cruel."

Hilton worked to improve his public image by emphasizing his role as a father, which he regularly discussed on his weekly podcast.

In June this year, Hilton revealed he had relocated from Las Vegas to Miami with his 3 children.
