PlayStation outage affecting gamers worldwide

PlayStation was down for roughly 8 hours after the gaming network reported global outages affecting various services. It’s safe to say that users were distraught, but now, the PlayStation Network is finally back online.

The PlayStation Network is now working normally, according to the PSN Service Status page. This comes after almost 8 hours of limited access. There’s still very little information on why the outage occurred.

If you planned to spend a relaxing Monday evening in front of your PlayStation console, perhaps awaiting the release of the most coveted games this October, well, you weren't in luck.

The PlayStation Network was previously experiencing major outages, as revealed in a status update.

The gaming giant revealed that the following services have been “experiencing issues” since about 4:20 a.m. on Monday, October 1st, 2024:

  • Account management
  • Gaming and social
  • PlayStation video
  • PlayStation store

Surely, my PS5 wasn't affected by the outages? Well, you’d be wrong.

All major platforms, including Other, PS Vita, PS3, PS4, PS5, and Web services, experienced issues.

The outage affected all major services apart from PlayStation Direct.

If you’d just bought a new console and were looking to create an account or you were planning to log into a pre-existing account, you may have noticed some problems, as PlayStation’s account management services weren't working.

“You might have difficulty signing in or creating an account for PlayStation Network,” the gaming giant said.

PlayStation has also reported that users may have encountered issues when launching games, apps, or network features. So, if you planned on booting up your favorite game, you thought wrong.

If you’re an avid user of PlayStation’s streaming service, then you may have found it hard to get TV shows and movies on your console, as PlayStation Video was also down.

Some of you may have been awaiting the release of some serious titles this October, such as Silent Hill 2 and Kill Knight, which should all be released early this month.

But, this may not go off without a hitch, as the PlayStation Store was heavily affected by the outage.

Users may have been unable to buy new titles, download games, browse or search the store, or redeem vouchers.

The company has said that they are working to resolve the issues as soon as possible. However, it was unclear as to when PlayStation servers would come back online but hopefully, it won’t affect the release of new titles coming out this October.

Updated on October 1st [12:10pm GMT] Issues with the PlayStation Network have been resolved and users should be able to use all PSN services.
