Learn moreVyprVPN and CyberGhost are two of the most popular VPN providers on the market. Each offers a range of impressive security features, along with plenty of secure international servers that are capable of unblocking a whole host of region-restricted streaming services.
But the two solutions differ wildly in many respects, including price, number of servers, and support for torrenting. To help you make your mind up, we’ve compared VyprVPN vs CyberGhost in several different categories.
Based on our tests, we found that CyberGhost is the winner because it offers a much larger fleet of servers, along with superior torrenting, an independently-audited no-logs policy, and excellent customer support.
Having said this, there are still many areas where VyprVPN and CyberGhost both performed well. To find out which one is right for you, read on for our full VyprVPN vs CyberGhost review.
VyprVPN vs CyberGhost VPN
Both VyprVPN and CyberGhost are reputable providers but they differ significantly in many ways. First, CyberGhost is a lot cheaper, and has a much larger selection of international servers than VyprVPN. Also, based on our latest tests, CyberGhost wins when it comes to streaming since it can unblock more location-restricted content than VyprVPN can.
Overall, CyberGhost is faster and more secure than VyprVPN. That’s why CyberGhost is the winner of this comparison.

Netflix and streaming performance
If you want to use a VPN to unblock region-restricted content from other parts of the world, both of these solutions will give you access to a large selection of streaming services. However, CyberGhost can unblock more geo-restricted sites and services than VyprVPN can.
For example, when testing them out, we found that CyberGhost was able to unblock Hulu, whereas VyprVPN wasn’t able to bypass its geo-blocks. Similarly, CyberGhost can give you access to plenty of foreign versions of Netflix. While VyprVPN doesn’t work with US or UK libraries.
VyprVPN | CyberGhost | |
Netflix | ✅ (but not UK or US libraries) | ✅ |
Amazon Prime Video | ✅ | ✅ |
Disney+ | ✅ | ✅ |
Hulu | ❌ | ✅ |
HBO Max | ✅ | ✅ |
BBC iPlayer | ✅ | ✅ |
Apple TV | ✅ | ✅ |
Another benefit of CyberGhost is that it has dedicated streaming servers, which make it easy to unblock every streaming service we tested it on. Its specialized server for Netflix unblocked the US version on the first attempt, although it did take a couple of minutes to load. But once we started watching our favorite show, we didn’t experience any buffering.
Additionally, CyberGhost has SmartDNS support, which means that you can use it to access geo-blocked content on game consoles, smart TVs, and other media devices, even if they don’t support VPN apps.
Plans & pricing
As with a lot of subscriptions, VPN pricing plans are almost always cheaper if you sign up for a longer subscription. And this is the case with both of the providers featured in this article.
It’s difficult to compare both providers regarding their short subscription times, as VyprVPN offers a one-month plan, while CyberGhost doesn’t. VyprVPN monthly subscription is kind of a cheap one compared to the market average $12.99 – it comes in a $10.00/month. The shortest plan CyberGhost offers is a six-month subscription, which comes at $6.99/month.
Plan | VyprVPN | CyberGhost |
Monthly | $10.00/month | N/A |
Six-month | N/A | $6.99/month |
One year | $5.00/month | N/A |
Two years | N/A | $2.19/month |
If you go for a yearly plan, VyprVPN price drops significantly, costing $5.00 a month.
However, you can enjoy some serious savings if you sign up for CyberGhost’s two-year plan, which works out at just $2.19 a month. Unfortunately, VyprVPN doesn’t offer a two-year plan. So, CyberGhost is your best bet for the best discount.
But, of course, it’s not just about the amount you pay but how you’re able to pay. And one of the good things about CyberGhost is that it accepts cryptocurrency payments, as well as credit cards, Amazon Pay, and PayPal. By contrast, you can’t use cryptocurrencies to pay for VyprVPN.
If you want to try either option before you commit, or even if you want to test out both and compare the results, VyprVPN has a 30-day money-back guarantee and a free three-day trial for Android users.
Meanwhile, CyberGhost has either a 14-day or 45-day money-back guarantee, depending on the plan you’re testing. And it has a one-day free trial for desktop, a three-day trial for Android, and a seven-day trial for iOS users.
VyprVPN vs CyberGhost VPN: which is more secure?
VyprVPN | CyberGhost | |
Encryption | AES-256 | AES-256 |
RAM servers | No | Yes |
Hash | SHA-256 | SHA-256 |
Outside of the 14-Eyes Alliance? | Yes | Yes |
No-logs policy | Audited | Audited |
Kill switch | Yes | Yes |
Ad blocker | Yes | Yes |
DNS leak protection | Yes | Yes |
As you can see, both VyprVPN and CyberGhost are serious about security, with plenty of features on offer to keep you safe while you’re online. Each of them uses AES-256 encryption and has additional security features, such as a kill switch, ad blockers, and DNS leak protection.
If you’re particularly security-conscious, you might be put off VyprVPN because it doesn’t have RAM servers. But, like CyberGhost, it’s located in a privacy-friendly country, so you can rest assured that your data won’t be shared.
And, to provide you further peace of mind, both providers have a strict zero-logs policy that has been independently audited. So you can feel confident that none of your data will be stored.
Infrastructure
Unlike VyprVPN, CyberGhost runs on RAM-only servers, so there’s no hard drive that user logs could be written on. Better still, it limits the possibility of its servers being breached because RAM-only servers wipe themselves whenever they restart.
Moreover, they’re a lot harder to break into, since they don’t follow a conventional design. In short, CyberGhost’s infrastructure is a lot more secure than VyprVPN.
Privacy
CyberGhost and VyprVPN use sophisticated and secure protocols to help you maintain your online anonymity while you’re online.
Better yet, VyprVPN is based in Romania, while CyberGhost is based in Switzerland. Neither of these locations has strict data retention laws, so you can trust their no-logs policies.
In addition, Switzerland and Romania aren’t part of the 14-Eyes intelligence alliance, so you don’t have to worry about the government requiring your internet service provider (ISP) to collect and share your data.
Logging
As with a lot of premium VPNs, CyberGhost and VyprVPN claim to operate strict no-logs policies, meaning that your data won’t be saved anywhere. And both of them have had independent audits to prove it.
CyberGhost’s no logs policy was audited independently by Deloitte in September 2022. Meanwhile, VyprVPN claimed to be the first VPN to be publicly audited, when it enlisted a third-party company, Leviathan Security, to run a full audit in 2018.
But despite this, CyberGhost has a slight edge over VyprVPN because its independent audit was undertaken much more recently.
Speed comparison: VyprVPN vs CyberGhost VPN
When testing CyberGhost VPN vs VyprVPN, we measured the speed of each protocol across different locations to find which one had a better average speed. Once we’d done this, we compared the speeds from both providers to determine which one is faster.
To make matters easier, both CyberGhost and VyprVPN use WireGuard, which is one of the most popular protocols, as it allows for fast and reliable VPN speeds. Therefore, our speed test results will be able to give us an accurate picture of which VPN provider is better.
VyprVPN | CyberGhost | |
Average download speed | 120.6 Mbps | 277 Mbps |
Average upload speed | 131 Mbps | 231.6 Mbps |
It’s clear from the results that CyberGhost is much faster than its competitor. Both the download speed average and upload speed average are higher than VyprVPN. The rather underwhelming VyprVPN speed performance can be due to poor implementation of the WireGuard protocol. Therefore, there’s nothing much to hype about it.
So, with CyberGhost you’ll get to enjoy lag-free browsing online, pretty speedy torrenting and streaming. While with VyprVPN you’re a lot more likely to experience lags and buffering.
However, neither CyberGhost nor VyprVPN can compete with the top-rated speediest VPNs like NordVPN or Surfshark.
Features overview
VyprVPN | CyberGhost | |
Split tunneling | ✅ Yes | ✅ Yes |
Smart DNS | ❌ No | ✅ Yes |
Web filters | ✅ Yes | ✅ Yes |
Neither VyprVPN nor CyberGhost is the most feature-rich provider when compared to other top-rated VPNs. However, they do cover the basics and have some useful tools to ensure your data security online.
When compared, CyberGhost offers more useful features than VyprVPN. In addition, the former’s features are more secure and reliable. To learn about all features in detail, you can head over to our CyberGhost review or VyprVPN review.
Split tunneling
Split tunneling is a genuinely useful feature that lets users choose which apps are connected to the VPN. This enables you to connect to foreign servers to unblock region-restricted content on your favorite streaming app, while also browsing local sites and services.
VyprVPN offers a very simplistic split tunneling feature to add what apps require a VPN tunnel. However, there’s no split tunneling feature on the Windows and iOS apps.
CyberGhost has a split tunneling feature called Smart Rules, which allows you to add websites that you want to use with the VPN.
There’s quite some customization available for this feature, especially with the rules of enabling a VPN connection whenever you connect to an unsafe wifi connection.
Smart DNS
This feature is ideal for watching geo-blocked content because it allows you to bypass region restrictions on streaming platforms without traffic encryption or routing your connection via a VPN server. This means that you’ll be able to enjoy faster speeds.
Even better, it will enable you to stream this content on devices that don’t support VPNs, such as game consoles, smart TVs, and streaming sticks.
Unfortunately, VyprVPN doesn’t have smart DNS capabilities. But on the bright side, CyberGhost has this feature, making it a much better choice if you’re planning on using a VPN for streaming.
Web filters
Web filters offer you an added layer of protection while you’re surfing the web. And both providers come with ad blockers to keep you safe from adware, malware, and trackers.
CyberGhost has an ad-blocker to block any form of trackers or malware from targeting your data. Frustratingly, when we tested this out, we were still able to see some ads.
VyprVPN, meanwhile, has an optional web filter that will prevent you from visiting potentially harmful websites. However, it’s worth noting that it doesn’t have a browser extension, so it’s not particularly user-friendly.
Server locations
VyprVPN | CyberGhost | |
Number of servers | 700+ | 11500+ |
Countries (total) | 64 | 100 |
Virtual locations | No | Yes |
Specialty servers | No | Yes |
If you’re shopping for a VPN, one of the most important things to compare is how many server locations each provider can boast. After all, the more server locations, the more options you have to access sites and services from around the world. And a large number of international servers can prevent overcrowding, thereby enabling faster and more reliable speeds.
As you can see from the numbers, CyberGhost definitely outshines VyprVPN in this category, with more than 10 times the number of servers. Therefore, CyberGhost is a clear choice, particularly if you want to use a VPN for streaming geo-blocked content.
Torrenting
CyberGhost and VyprVPN both have specialized servers for P2P connections. So, in theory, both providers should be a good option for a torrenting VPN.
To make things easy, CyberGhost has a separate tab for its torrenting servers, which lets you filter according to the distance to your location. It works pretty well, but we did notice a drop in speeds while we were connected, so the provider may have put some throttling measures in place to preserve the server’s bandwidth.
Contrastingly, VyprVPN has only recently added support for torrenting and P2P communication. But it caps torrenting speeds at just 5MB/s, making for a slow and frustrating user experience. If you want to torrent, we’d recommend using CyberGhost.
Platforms, interface, and ease of use
VyprVPN | CyberGhost | |
Supported OS | Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, and iOS | Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS |
Other software and devices | Android TV, router, QNAP, Blackphone, Anonabox | Android TVs, Amazon Fire TV Sticks |
Browser extensions | Chrome | Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Brave |
Simultaneous connections | 30 | 7 |
When signing up for any online service, it’s vital to make sure that it works on the devices you want, as well as your chosen operating system and browser. And, although VyprVPN and CyberGhost both work on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS, CyberGhost has a lot more to offer when it comes to supporting other devices, thanks to its smart DNS feature.
What’s more, CyberGhost also has browser extensions for Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Brave, which outshines VyprVPN’s offering for just Chrome.
However, VyprVPN comes with 30 simultaneous connections, while CyberGhost only gives you seven. Therefore, if you want to use your VPN across a lot of devices that work with VyprVPN, it might be the better option for you.
Desktop apps
VyprVPN’s desktop app is simple and unobtrusive on both Windows and Mac. Meanwhile, its Linux version doesn’t have a graphical user interface, although you can still use it if you connect using the terminal.
Similarly, CyberGhost isn’t the best choice for Linux, although it does work better than VyprVPN’s offering. And its Windows and Mac apps are simple and intuitive and have a good range of security features available. So, if you’re looking for a VPN with a good desktop app, we’d recommend opting for CyberGhost.
Mobile apps
Surprisingly, what VyprVPN lacks on desktop, it makes up for on mobile, with more features on its Android app, including automatic connections after a reboot and a customizable DNS.
Having said that, the iOS app is missing a few key features, including split tunneling options and a kill switch.
And speaking of kill switches, CyberGhost’s mobile apps don’t come with a kill switch, either. On the other hand, both iOS and Android versions of the app are well-designed and easy to use.
This isn’t the most feature-rich mobile application, but it’s simplistic and easy to use.

Equally, you’ll find both providers have extensive help sections on their websites, with plenty of useful FAQs and guides to answer your questions. In short, when comparing customer support for CyberGhost vs VyprVPN, it’s a tie.
