“Eww the Mickey Mouse is gone:” users online bash the macOS 26 new cursor

Users want Apple to keep its current cursor for a rather strange reason.

Apple has presented an array of new and upgraded features during its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), going though each of its software releases of iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS 26, watchOS 26, tvOS 26, and visionOS 26.

Some of these announcements only confirmed previous speculations on what to expect next from Apple. The examples include the company’s decision to rename Apple’s operating system as well giving its products a redesigned and unified interface.

Among the novelties that Apple presented, some started discussions online. While showing off new features on watchOS, the company shared that, in the future, users will be able to train with Apple’s Workout Buddy. However, a number of users pointed out that this feature could be more annoying than helpful.

When it comes to consumers pinpointing various changes within products, one vigilant user started a discussion online on the new macOS cursor and how it has changed, prompting a rather humorous discussion.

“I don't know how I feel about the hand,” wrote the netizen, noting that the “hand” cursor has now been changed.

The discussion was then followed by a number of comments that “identified” the cursor as the glove that belongs to a Disney cartoon character, Mickey Mouse.

“THE MICKY MOUSE HAND NOOOOOOO,” replied one Redditor.

“Eww, the Mickey Mouse is gone, the rest are OK,” noted a netizen, with another user adding: “Look how they massacred my boy.”

“If they’re going for glass, isn’t wearing a glove more essential? That cursor’s going to leave fingerprints everywhere!” joked another user, referring to the “Liquid Glass” interface change the company announced during WWDC’25.

Another user shared: “They should make it such that when you click it, there are fingerprints left behind! And then you need to use a virtual Apple polishing cloth to remove it.”

The upcoming macOS change also prompted a debate on how the company is making these small changes that don’t actually impact users that much, but hurt Apple’s branding.

“The glove is one of those little things that gives macOS so much of its unique character,” shared one Redditor.

“They Windowsified it,” noted another netizen.
