The new feature, called inactivity restart, protects a smartphone by restarting it after 72 hours of being locked.

If on, the feature will trigger a reboot if the smartphone isn’t used for 72 hours.

Once the smartphone is restarted, the user will need to unlock the phone and the SIM card to receive messages, calls, and notifications.

The reason for this feature is to provide the device with an additional layer of security, since after a restart, it must be unlocked to display any content, notes Sammy Fans.

The new feature has appeared with the February 2026 security patches and new software updates.
