I would definitely say it's more than possible to create your own website using shared hosting. People undermine shared hosting, but the truth is many people simply don't have the money to afford high-quality hosting.

How often will I have to be in contact with web hosting providers (in case something happens)? I do have a wordpress site and I want cheap hosting but afraid they wont have good customer support.
Kotryna Degutytė
prefix 1 year ago
Hey, if you pick a high-quality web hosting provider, you won't need to contact customer support very often. This is ironic, as high-quality web hosting usually has the best customer support. In any case, all providers on this list have pretty fast and helpful customer support in case you need them.:)

i’m glad I found this article! i got tp know some more reliable and affordable wordpress hosting options. at first i wanted to choose some other web hosting service, but they only offered servers in the US, i thought that might be too slow for me because i live and work in Europe.
Kotryna Degutytė
prefix 2 years ago
I'm very happy this helped! Just one thing about the server location – consider where your main audience is from and choose the data center as close to that location as possible:)

“Unlimited” resources – just a buzzword we use to call a plan that is actually very much limited. Love the hostgator package names: hatchling, baby… so sweet 😀 Aren’t there any consumer regulations that forbid using words like unlimited if they are not true?
Kotryna Degutytė
prefix 2 years ago
I definitely agree on the package names, they are quite funny!

Now, about the ‘unlimited’ thing… I believe there are regulations that should prevent this. But hosting providers usually manage to sneak through them by writing complex terms of conditions. This means that they do not physically limit the resources that you can use but reserve the right to suspend your account if you’re not a “nice neighbor” and use too much 🙂

I think the cheapest wordpress hosting is actually completely free, but it does take some extra technical knowledge. For example you could convert your entire wordpress site into a static html and host it on netlify for free, however if you rely heavily on wordpress plugins the method does not work for you, in that case I’d choose hostinger
Kotryna Degutytė
prefix 2 years ago
Hi Henna, there sure are free WordPress hosting options and they might work for very small personal-only sites. Other than that, professional hosting services can guarantee the most reliability, good performance, and all the tools needed to manage the sites.
