No Netflix for older Apple TVs

Netflix users with earlier versions of Apple TV might be forced to find other streaming alternatives.

Netflix alerted Apple TV users that it will end support for second and third-generation devices on July 31st, 2024.

The streaming service platform emailed its users to inform them that Netflix will no longer be available to those who use Apple TV models released in 2010 and 2012. The same message can now also be found on the Netflix Help Center.

The company’s decision was based on its desire to “maintain the best possible Netflix experience,” which requires a device with the latest features and updates.

Apple has already called its first three Apple TV generations “obsolete,” meaning that these devices are no longer in development. The second-generation Apple TV was released in 2010, and the latest one, the third-generation Apple TV 4K, was launched in 2022.

Older Apple TV devices are not the only ones that didn’t make the cut. Netflix has also stopped supporting Roku boxes from 2019 and older Samsung and Vizio smart TVs.
