OpenAI wants ChatGPT to become your personal collaborator.
OpenAI has launched a new ChatGPT feature for writing and coding called Canvas.
Considering how people use ChatGPT assistance when writing or coding, the company created Canvas for more convenient use. It opens in a new window and, according to OpenAI, works as “a copy editor or code reviewer.”
Canvas appears automatically when ChatGPT recognizes the need for it. Users can also add it themselves in existing projects.
The new ChatGPT interface can give users edit suggestions, length and reading level adjustments, grammar and clarity changes, and more. The new tool also helps with coding by providing edits, bug fixes, and translation to other programming languages.
While Canvas is a novel feature for ChatGPT, a demo shows the new feature to be quite familiar, reminiscent of Google Docs but packed with AI features.
The feature is still in beta testing but is now available for ChatGPT Plus and Team users worldwide. Enterprise and Edu users will receive it next week. Once the feature is tested, it will also become available for ChatGPT Free users.
To fully use Canvas, users have to use its desktop version, as mobile can only be used to view the project.
Canvas's release follows internal changes at the company. Recently, it was reported that OpenAI’s CTO Mira Murati, along with two technical leads, has decided to leave the company.
Soon after, OpenAI made the decision to shift from a non-profit organization to a for-profit company, securing a $6.6 billion investment to continue its work in AI.
