Leaks of Pixel 9 phones reveal some design changes and camera improvements

The latest Pixel Fold is expected to feature a redesigned rear camera setup, and all the Pixel 9 series models are expected to have new camera sensors.

Google is hosting an event on August 13th, at which the company will unveil refreshed Pixel 9 foldable phones. As the event nears, leaks of the new devices continue to surface, leaving less room for Google to surprise.

Now, Android Authority has spotted all the Pixel models via the filing provided to the Taiwan Communications and Communication Commission, which is equivalent to the FCC in the US.

The filing shows us four Pixel models, including the first close image of Google’s next-generation foldable, the Pixel Fold, and battery specs.

According to the images, the front camera in the Pixel Fold model has been moved from the center of the screen to the right corner. And the main camera bar, a distinguishable feature of the Pixel Fold, will be replaced with a rectangular camera setup featuring two elliptical camera lenses.

The pictures of the Fold also show us that the phone will have slightly thinner bezels, making the screen larger.

Other models, Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and the Pixel 9 XL, feature more familiar designs.

According to the report, Pixel Fold will come with a dual battery of 4560 mAh, while the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel Pro XL are set to feature 4558 mAh, 4558 mAh, and 4942 mAh, respectively.

Regulatory filings also show an image of a 45W charger, which will probably be shipped with these devices.

Previous leaks announced this week reveal that the new devices should come with significant camera improvements. According to Android Authority’s source in Google, the company is replacing the old Sony IMX386 ultrawide with the 50MP Sony IMX858 on Pixel 9, Pixel Pro, and Pixel Pro XL.

The same sensor should also power the Pro and Pro XL selfie and telephoto cameras. Meanwhile, the front camera of the Pixel 9 is said to feature Samsung 3J1, which is also found in the Pixel 8 Pro.

According to the report, the new Sony IMX858 sensor should be more versatile and useful in low-light conditions.
