Best European VPS hosting in 2026

The first time I used a Europe-based VPS, I was living in Barcelona, trying to troubleshoot a project that kept generating server-side errors. I figured that a local VPS would provide the steady and low-latency environment I needed. While some providers had fast speeds, their user interfaces lacked polish. Others experienced downtime but had excellent support. This led me to investigate Europe-based VPS hosting further.

Since then, I tested over 20 VPS hosts over the past year some on my own, others alongside the Cybernews team, who've been evaluating VPS hosting since 2019. I measured each provider's performance, ease of use, security features, and overall value to create this list of the 8 best European VPS hosts for 2026.

My top 8 choices of VPS hosting in Europe: shortlist

Why choose VPS hosting focused in Europe?

First off, if you’re new to VPS hosting, I recommend reading this comprehensive guide on the best VPS hosting and its essential features, including control panels, security tools, and resource allocation options.

Europe-based VPS hosting has several key benefits:

  • Improved loading times. When your audience is in Europe, a local VPS dramatically cuts loading times and latency. This speed boost is crucial for real-time applications like online stores, live chat systems, or gaming servers where every millisecond counts.
  • GDPR compliance. European data centers must follow strict GDPR privacy regulations, which means your customer data gets stronger protection by default — no extra compliance work needed on your end.
  • Better speeds. Many leading European VPS providers are specifically tuned for local traffic, which results in faster speeds and more reliable uptime.
  • Simplified regulatory requirements. If you're in healthcare, finance, or other regulated industries, hosting locally makes it much easier to meet compliance standards.

Where is the best VPS located in Europe?

Most VPS hosting companies provide the same server specifications in all of their data centers in Europe. Therefore, the underlying resources, such as CPU, RAM, and storage, are usually the same whether your server is located in Sweden, France, or Germany.

Latency changes depending on the situation. Data travels slower the further your server is from your physical location or your target audience. In my experience, site responsiveness and load times can be greatly improved by selecting a data center near your user base, wherever they are in Europe.

Can I get VPS hosting in Europe for free?

Yes, free VPS hosting is available in Europe, but there are significant drawbacks, so I wouldn’t recommend it. Most free plans have very few, if any, security features, unreliable uptime, and limited resources. Performance problems, a lack of dedicated support, and the possibility of an unexpected server outage are also common.

If you're on a limited budget, free VPS hosting can sound very attractive, but it’s rarely reliable for the long term. If price is a concern for you, I suggest choosing a budget-friendly provider like Kamatera, as it has much better performance and stability and offers a 30-day free trial.

Best Europe VPS hosting: detailed list

Together with the research team, I conducted tests on performance, features, and overall experience, specifically within European data centers, to identify the best VPS Europe hosting. We used the same methodology as our in-depth reviews of the best web hosts to maintain consistency and credibility. Now, let's examine the breakdown in detail.

  • Kamatera's strength is its wide European data center presence, with options in the Netherlands, the UK, Germany, Sweden, Spain, and Italy.

  • Uptime: 100%

  • Uptime: 100%
  • Average response time: 29ms
  • Site load speed: 0.92s

My overall experience with Hostinger. Generally, Hostinger’s VPS panel was quick and easy to use, and the browser terminal was a handy bonus. The AI assistant Kodee seemed more like a work in progress. It was helpful for frequently asked questions but unreliable when it came to technical matters. However, Hostinger is the strongest choice for the resources and features you get in this lineup. If you’d like to explore more, read our full Hostinger review.

Being one of the most scalable and cheapest VPS providers in Europe, IONOS is a great option if you need flexibility, whether you’re managing a rapidly expanding company or expanding side projects into new markets. Its regional server presence (Germany, Spain, and the UK) is what really makes it stand out in Europe. This lowers latency and makes it easier to comply with EU data regulations.

  • Besides having data centers in Europe, IONOS offers up to 24GB of RAM and 720GB of NVMe storage, along with fully customizable vCPU counts.
  • I especially liked the configurable firewall and integrated DDoS protection, which are crucial for adhering to EU security regulations.

Performance. Performance with IONOS was consistent when I tested its VPS. Here are the results:

  • Uptime: 100%
  • Average response time: 167ms
  • Site load speed: 3.35s
  • Stress test: passed with 20 VUs

My overall experience with IONOS. I really enjoyed the customization IONOS offers, and it's a huge advantage for companies growing in the EU. However, I was really slowed down by the clumsy console and basic interface. To find out more, be sure to check the in-depth IONOS analysis.

From my experience, Bluehost, with servers in the Netherlands and the UK, is a practical option for regional small businesses and bloggers who need low-latency hosting for their local audiences but don't have deep technical expertise.

Features. Bluehost VPS is easy to use and install. Here's what I appreciated the most:

  • I liked that every plan includes unmetered bandwidth, so you won't get surprise fees or throttling if your website traffic spikes.
  • Already at checkout, you can choose to preinstall n8n, Magento, OpenClaw, WooCommerce, and other useful business tools, so you won't need a developer to make everything work correctly immediately.
  • Migration from WordPress is completely free in Bluehost. Moreover, it can be automatically installed and updated, which makes long-term maintenance much easier.

Performance. During my testing, Bluehost showed decent performance:

  • Uptime: 100%
  • Average response time: 160ms
  • Site load speed: 1.76s
  • Stress test: passed with 50 VUs

My overall experience with Bluehost. I like how simple it was to migrate from WordPress, install n8n, and configure my server with custom resources. However, Bluehost's performance is very solid for standard use, though enterprise-level web apps may eventually need a dedicated server to achieve 1s load times. 8. GoDaddy – best VPS in Europe for users already in the GoDaddy ecosystem

Cybernews rating:
4
Servers in Europe:✅ Yes (France, Germany, UK)
Money-back guarantee:✅ 30-day
Bonus tools:Up to 3 additional IPs upon request, SSL certificates, DDoS protection
Starting price:From €7.74/month
Best deal:GoDaddy coupon 60% OFF

Features. GoDaddy provides strong coverage in Europe, offering plans for everyday use. Here’s a quick summary:

  • GoDaddy offers good coverage throughout Western and Central Europe from its server location in France, Germany, and the UK.
  • Plans with up to 200GB NVMe SSD and 16GB RAM provide performance appropriate for moderate workloads.
  • However, GoDaddy's entry-level tier is short of essential tools, which, I found, makes it less appealing to developers or resellers who require complete control than other European VPS providers.

Performance. GoDaddy showed solid performance during my tests, but the load times were slightly longer:

  • Uptime: 100%
  • Average response time: 81ms
  • Site load speed: 1.42s
  • Stress test: passed with 50 VUs

My overall experience with GoDaddy. On the whole, GoDaddy is the most well-designed panel I've ever used, and it functions flawlessly – but only if you're already familiar with GoDaddy. How we tested VPS hosting for Europe: methodology

To discover the best VPS hosting for Europe, I teamed up with the Cybernews research team and evaluated the best options in the market. You can see my detailed testing process below: everything from how I selected the providers for testing to rating each option.

Step 1 – initial selection

I started by researching the highest-rated VPS hosting providers on Trustpilot. I checked the number of reviews and how recent they were to make sure the feedback was relevant. This gave me a starting list of 20 VPS hosting providers worth considering.

Step 2 – narrowing the list

I realized that 20 providers would be too much to test, so I did a little filtering. I immediately discarded those providers that were priced above €15.00/month for their entry-level plan. I also excluded providers without at least one European server location, as that would affect speed and latency for local users. These two filters cut the list down to a more manageable size.

Step 3 – hands-on testing

With the shortlist ready, I moved on to real-world testing, actually setting up and using each VPS to see how it performed in practice:

  1. Personal testing. I set up a basic VPS on every platform, going through everything from buying a plan and using the control panel to exploring security tools. I checked how easy they were to use, how intuitive the interfaces felt, and whether I ran into any issues.
  2. Performance testing. I teamed up with the Cybernews research team and tested the performance of each provider. We tracked uptime for at least two weeks using Grafana Synthetics, ran stress tests with 50 VUs using Grafana k6.io, and checked load speeds with WebPageTest.
  3. Features and resources. I evaluated RAM, CPU, SSD storage, and bandwidth offered. I also noted scalability, OS options, dashboard types (custom or cPanel), monitoring tools, backups, and extras like SSL certificates.
  4. Security. I examined integrated security features such as firewalls, malware detection, DDoS defense, and adherence to the GDPR.
  5. Customer support. I tested response speed during peak and off-peak hours and noted whether 24/7 chat or phone support was available.
  6. Price to value. I compared the cost to the resources, features, and performance offered.

Step 4 – final ranking from 1 to 7

After gathering all results, I compared every provider side-by-side. Each was rated on experience, performance, features, security, support, and value for money, then ranked from 1 to 7.

Final thoughts

After testing more than 20 VPS hosts and comparing 8 Europe-based providers, I found that the best choice depends on what you value most: raw performance, ease of use, scalability, or business features.

Kamatera stood out as my overall pick due to its broad European coverage, fast setup, and flexible plans, while Hostinger, IONOS, and the others each excel in their own areas. If you want a VPS in Europe, the right provider is the one that best fits your workload, budget, and technical comfort level.
