62 million iPhone users’ records leaked online, attackers claim

The leaked Apple mobile iOS database includes tens of millions of records, such as names, IDs, mobile phone operators, and other personal identifiers, attackers claim on a data leak forum.

The post appeared on a popular data leak forum, where attackers alleged that the leaked information covers Chinese Apple iOS users, with the data being as recent as February 2025. The data supposedly comes from an unnamed iOS app.

The Cybernews research team investigated the limited data sample provided in the post, concluding it’s not entirely clear what app the data was taken from or whether the attackers’ claims are valid.

The post on a data leak forum claims that the dataset exposed user:

• Names
• ID cards
• Genders
• Dates of birth
• Phone numbers
• Provinces
• City

If confirmed, the leak could jeopardize the privacy of impacted individuals. For example, attackers could utilize the stolen data for identity theft, financial fraud, or targeted phishing attacks.

It appears the data doesn’t come from any previous data leak. It’s possible to check this using the Cybernews personal data leak checker, which contains over 15.5 billion entries from older data breaches.

According to the researchers, the attacker has a reputation for posting various leaks in the past, adding credibility to the claims. However, at least for now, there’s no certain way to check if there’s actually 62 million records involved in the supposedly leaked dataset.

However, earlier this year, Cybernews' investigation revealed that 71% of the analyzed iOS apps leak at least one secret, with an average app's code exposing 5.2 secrets. Meanwhile, the investigation involved 156,000 iOS apps, roughly 8% of the entire App Store.

For example, a number of BDSM, LGBTQ+, and sugar dating apps have been found exposing users' private images, with some of them even leaking photos shared in private messages.
