Samsung swaps its own messaging app with Google Messages in the US

Users of Samsung Messages can still use the app on their latest smartphones.

With its latest phones, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6 smartphones, Samsung will no longer pre-install its Messages app on Galaxy devices.

“Starting with the Flip6, Fold6, and newer models, the Samsung Messages app will no longer be preloaded. Instead, Google Messages will provide a new and enhanced experience to express your emotions, making communication safe and fun,” the news was shared by a Samsung user via X (formerly Twitter), first reported by 9to5Google.

It was noticed that while the new update was implemented in the US, devices in Europe and Canada still have pre-installed Samsung Messages.

The function started slowly disappearing in 2022 with the Galaxy S22 series. The same year, Samsung set Google Messages as the default SMS/RCS app on Galaxy devices but left the Samsung Messages app as an option.

The Samsung Messages application can still be downloaded via the Samsung Galaxy Store.
