Best eCommerce web hosting in 2025

Our verdict

Hostinger is my first choice for hosting an eCommerce website. It offers WooCommerce plans, free email hosting, and an eCommerce web builder with all hosting plans. This provider has a strong security infrastructure that perfectly shields online shops with features such as free unlimited SSLs and DDoS protection.

With a growing demand for eCommerce, most hosting providers now offer eCommerce web hosting solutions. However, some still lack eCommerce plans or resources to handle e-shops, as only specific features can support business websites. To find the best eCommerce hosting solution worth your investment, our research team and I evaluated 58 providers.

In this guide, I share my latest insights from the revised research in April 2025. You’ll find my 8 recommended eCommerce hosts to help you make a well-informed decision aligned with your business needs and goals.

Hostinger adds an extra layer of security with free unlimited SSLs, weekly backups, server monitoring, and DDoS protection to keep your online store secure.

How we tested the best eCommerce hosting services

To select only the best website hosting options for this list, our research team and I reviewed 58 website hosts. Following a strict website hosting test process resulted in a thorough screening of providers. As a result, 8 providers were selected and tested further based on:

  1. eCommerce features (30%). For the hosting provider to get on my list, it had to provide sufficient features for eCommerce sites, such as management features like a cPannel or a custom version of it. In addition, I looked for features like free SSL, business emails, 1-click installation, easy WordPress/WooCommerce, and PrestaShop CMS setup functionalities.
  2. Performance (25%). Performance is very important for an eCommerce site. Therefore, I only picked the providers that, during our tests, met the required average server response time under 600ms and fully loaded time of up to 3 seconds for the best performance. I tested the uptime and server average response time with Pingdom, website loading speed with GTMetrix, and visitors load with K6.io tools.
  3. Security (25%). I looked for the security capabilities of these hosting providers so you could safely host your website and also protect your customer data. So I checked and picked only those providers that offer firewall protection, have PCI (payment card industry) rules, protect from DDoS attacks, and have automatic backups.
  4. Customer support (10%). I made sure that the providers on my list have efficient customer support available for any issue that may arise, from hosting your eCommerce site, feature implementation, to any performance or security question.
  5. Pricing (10%). I also focused on affordable pricing. However, I made sure that low pricing didn’t affect the quality of services offered by each provider.

What features should I look for in eCommerce hosting?

There are a couple of things you can consider that will make choosing a suitable hosting for your online store easy:

  • Dedicated eCommerce features. Features like free SSL, business email, and custom domains are very useful for eCommerce sites. Plus, a reasonable amount of bandwidth, so your site would not crash during traffic spikes.
  • Storage capacity. eCommerce websites are generally heavy. So, you’ll need to decide how much storage you need for all your content (and how many products the site will sell), plugins, and site integration to be fully functional.
  • Advanced security features. You need to make sure that you have all of the latest security features to protect the privacy, details, and files of yours and your site’s clients, as they will own accounts with certain personal information. Hence, the providers need to offer an SSL certificate, stick to PCI (payment card industry) rules, prevent DDoS attacks, avoid spam and malware, and allow website backups.
  • High-speed performance. Speed is important both for customers and search engines if you're planning to get visitors by ranking high on search queries. The results you should seek are an average server response time under 600ms, fully loaded time up to 2 seconds.
  • Management features. The ease of use of a hosting provider can definitely make or break it. Some providers offer a standard cPanel control panel, which is easy to use even for complete beginners. Others have custom control panels that are just as well-organized as the cPanel.
  • Flexible hosting plans. To host an eCommerce site, you can either opt for a shared, cloud, or VPS hosting solution. This choice will depend on the size of your website and its traffic. Shared hosting doesn’t have a lot of storage space, and bandwidth is a little limited, while cloud and VPS are much more suitable for small to medium online stores with medium traffic.
  • Scalability options. It’s important for users to easily upgrade if they outgrow their plan. Also, there should be many options to upgrade to.

Do I need hosting with PCI compliance for my store?

PCI compliance is a set of security standards that ensure companies create a secure environment for handling, storing, or transmitting credit card data. It protects cardholder data, reducing the risk of fraud.

Therefore, if you’re running an online store that processes payments directly, PCI compliance goes without saying. Even if you’re not handling payments directly, using a PCI-compliant host is safer, which is always a good strategy for eCommerce.

Alternatives for eCommerce hosting

For eCommerce, you can pick from a few different types of hosting. Here are the main ones and what they are best for:

  • Website builders. You can use a website builder to create your eCommerce page. This way, you can customize your site and get useful SEO and marketing tools to grow your business. You can check out our list of the best website builders for small businesses for more information.
  • Cloud-based hosting. This is one of the most popular hosting types because it can support businesses of all sizes. Additionally, it is one of the most stable hosting types because it doesn’t take down the entire site if there's an issue with servers.
  • Shared hosting. This is the best budget-friendly web hosting option for your site. In shared hosting, multiple different sites are hosted on a shared server. This type of hosting is the best for small businesses with small to moderate traffic.
  • VPS hosting. Similar to shared hosting, where different sites share the same server; however, each site has its own resources. It’s also a great option for those with less hosting experience.
  • Dedicated servers. This version offers dedicated servers for each site. You get the best performance results and flexible customization; however, it’s not beginner-friendly.

Final thoughts

The market is full of web hosting providers claiming to offer the best eCommerce hosting. However, I advise you to be cautious when choosing a reliable eCommerce web host. There are several key factors that can help you pick a truly reliable eCommerce web hosting provider – excellent performance results, dedicated eCommerce features, and strong security suite.

My top recommendation for web hosting for eCommerce is Hostinger. It has demonstrated excellent performance, offers resource-rich plans, and has useful eCommerce-oriented features.

Ultimately, you should pick an eCommerce web hosting provider depending on your business needs. Before making the final decision, take time to identify and prioritize the features that will bring the most value to your business.
