Best website builder for podcasts - the best platforms for building podcast websites

best website builder for podcasts

Having a podcast website is one of the best ways to set yourself up for success – it’s a central hub where your audience can listen to and engage with your content. Not to mention, it will also help to attract sponsorships and showcase your brand.

Of course, building a website that’ll suit your needs may seem like a daunting task. Fortunately, website-building platforms exist that can help get your podcast website up and running very easily. These platforms give you access to professional and modern design templates as well as proper marketing tools.

However, not every website builder out there is ideal for building podcast websites. To help choose the best option for your circumstances, I’ve reviewed some of the best website builders for podcasts. Here are 5 excellent options to consider.

Best website builder for podcasts: overview

  • Squarespace – best website builder for podcasts
  • Wix – best website builder for externally hosted podcasts
  • SITE123 – easiest to use website builder for podcasts
  • Buzzsprout – quickest way to build a website for podcasts
  • Podbean – great podcast hosting platform

Squarespace - the best option for hosting podcasts on your site

Best forStrong visuals and media

Squarespace is one of the best options to go for if you’re looking for an all-in-one solution that’ll allow hosting podcasts episodes directly on your site. Squarespace offers beautiful podcast-focused template designs and decent built-in SEO and eCommerce features.

Podcast website with Squarespace

Squarespace is so widely advertised in podcasts, that you’ve probably heard about this builder already. Well, even though you’re looking into building a website to please people’s ears, consider this builder that is renowned for being pleasing to the eyes.

The templates offered by Squarespace are professionally crafted and modern – all categories have extremely beautiful designs, making websites look like they were made by industry experts.

And to start using it, you have to pick a template. If you aren’t using a host like SoundCloud for your podcast’s audio files, you can host audio right on Squarespace, and use Squarespace to create and manage podcasts. So, the process of starting a website is very easy – just select a template from Blogs & Podcasts category in the template library. Or from any other category. I don’t judge.

Once you’ve chosen a template and started editing, navigate to the blog section of the template (if it has one, of course) or add a new blog page.

Now, to add the podcast function to your brand new site, navigate to the Feeds tab in the page settings and then click on the Podcasting toggle to turn on the feature

Right in the Podcasting tab, you can enter your podcast’s information such as the title, category, and description. You can also upload a cover image for your podcast on this page.

squarespace podcast settings

When you’re done setting up the podcast details, the next step is to post a podcast episode. All you have to do is add a new blog post and insert an Audio Block

You can upload .mp3 and .m4a audio files that are not more than 160 MB in size. If your podcast files end up larger than that, you’ll have to host them externally.

And finally, after adding a podcast episode, you can publish it immediately or schedule it to publish later. It’s also possible to distribute your podcast’s RSS feed to Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, and other podcast directories. If you want to monitor your podcast episodes’ analytics, you can do so with the built-in RSS Subscribers Analytics tool or with third-party services, for example, Google Analytics.

Squarespace also allows you to connect multiple podcasts to your site, but sadly, this builder doesn’t support video episodes. While you can embed videos in blog posts, they won’t show up in your podcast feed.

Another important thing – marketing features. Promotion is so very important for a podcast because if you don’t have any listeners you’re just talking to yourself into a microphone… Not to mention, starting a podcast is a long-term strategy that can generate revenue in a variety of ways.

Squarespace offers decent SEO tools for blog posts – if you end up writing additional articles that go together with your podcast episodes (for instance, some behind-the-scenes info or a little story about how your research went), definitely try that. The blogging editor and SEO tools are pretty good and they would be able to attract new eyes (and ears) to your website.

Additionally, to gain more attention, utilize social media to promote new episodes. On Squarespace, you can use Social Links Blocks to provide links to your Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and other social media accounts. Additionally, to save time, add Twitter Blocks for a running list of your podcast’s tweets, and set up blog posts to automatically send new blog posts on Twitter and Facebook.

Pricing

When it comes to pricing, Squarespace doesn’t offer a free plan. But don’t get discouraged, because you do get a lot of value with the paid plans. Here’s what the plans have to offer:

  • Personal ($12 a month) – unlimited bandwidth and storage
  • Business ($18 a month) – advanced analytics and eCommerce with a 3% fee
  • Basic Commerce ($26 a month) – customer accounts and professional emails as well as no fee for eCommerce
  • Advanced Commerce ($40 a month) – selling subscriptions and abandoned cart recovery

For a podcast site, you’d be good to go with the Personal plan. However, if you do end up wanting to sell something on your site (for instance, merch), stray away from the Business plan. Basic or Advanced Commerce plans would be better simply because they do not take fees with every transaction.

On the whole, Squarespace is a superb platform for building podcast websites. You can choose from some of the best modern template designs to create a really nice-looking site and utilize the built-in marketing and SEO tools to get the word out. It offers just the right blend of tools needed to build a great podcast website.

Wix - The best website builder for externally hosted Podcasts

Best forDesign and editing freedom

Wix is an excellent option for building a podcast website as it offers numerous podcast-friendly templates and solid marketing and SEO features. You can easily feature both audio and video podcast episodes on your site.

Podcast website with Wix

If you want to build a podcast website that utterly reflects your unique style, you’ll find Wix to be perfect for your needs.

To start website building, you’ll have to choose between two editors: the classic editor and the Wix ADI (Artificial Design Intelligence) editor.

wix choosing an editor

While the ADI editor is extremely simple to use (only requires you to answer a series of questions for it to generate a website), the classic editor lets you pick out a template. Wix offers over 800 templates as a whole, not to mention, it has specific curated templates for podcasts

For this reason, I would recommend trying out building your website with the classic editor. It has a tiny learning curve, but nothing you couldn’t do. If you’re curious about the ADI editor, it’s the star of our Wix review, anyways.

Doesn’t look that scary… or does it?

Gloomily, I have to announce that Wix doesn’t offer built-in support for podcasts. However, the good news is that setting up a Wix site to showcase and stream podcasts is as easy as installing the Wix Podcast Player app from the Wix App Market. Because that’s exactly what you need to do.

With the Podcast Player app, you can showcase your podcast services and add links to Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Libsyn, and Soundcloud among others.

wix podcast player

The Wix Podcast Player app makes it super easy to set up your podcast website. Simply input the URL of your podcast’s RSS feed and the app will automatically populate the Podcast Overview page with your podcast episodes and their information. It will also generate unique pages for all your podcast episodes automatically.

You can customize the layout and design of the generated pages in the Wix Editor, not to mention, have the ability to also enable or disable episode downloads in the settings.

Other excellent features of the Wix Podcast Player app include the ability to connect multiple podcasts to one website and upload video episodes.

And the best part? The Wix Podcast Player app is free and you get access to all the features at no cost.

Now, to get listeners, you can leverage the solid marketing and SEO capabilities of Wix to promote your podcasts. For instance, Wix will give you an SEO plan to follow in order to appear on your wanted search results.

wix seo

For your site’s content, you can change/add meta titles and descriptions, add alt tags to your images, and customize your headings – all these changes guarantee better online visibility.

For promotion, it’s possible to include links to your social media platforms or send newsletters to your audience.

These features combined give a hefty leverage to online success – if you end up going with Wix, make sure to utilize them.

Pricing

Wix also offers a free plan that displays Wix brand ads on your site pages. If you need a professional look, though, it’s possible to get rid of those ads and connect a custom domain by upgrading to a paid plan. Here’s what the paid plans have to offer:

  • Connect Domain ($4.50 a month) – 500 MB of storage, basic website building
  • Combo ($8.50 a month) – 2 GB of storage, no Wix ads on your site
  • Unlimited ($12.50 a month) – 10 GB of storage, site booster app
  • VIP ($24.50 a month) – 35 GB of storage, professional logo, priority customer care
  • Business Basic ($17 a month) –  20 GB of storage, 5 video hours, customer accounts
  • Business Unlimited ($25 a month) – 35 GB of storage, 10 video hours, $300 ad voucher
  • Business VIP ($35 a month) – 50 GB of storage, unlimited video hours, customized reports

Sadly, no plans have unlimited storage – for a podcast website, I’d recommend going with at least Unlimited or the VIP plan. If you plan on selling merchandise on your site, you’ll have to upgrade to one of the Business plans.

Overall, Wix is undoubtedly a great option for creating beautiful and functional podcast websites with very little hassle. And you can easily take advantage of its solid marketing capabilities to promote your content.

SITE123 - the easy way to build a podcast website

Best forQuick and easy website launching

SITE123 is an affordable and easy-to-use website builder that’s perfect for beginners. It offers tools to upload audio podcasts and promote your content with email marketing and SEO features.

Podcast website with SITE123

SITE123 is an excellent website builder for anyone looking to create a simple podcast website quickly. It offers a super intuitive site editor that allows customizing whatever template you choose to suit your needs.

To start off, you’ll need to pick a template. But that’s not a problem, since SITE123 offers more than 180 different options in its design template library. The templates look modern and are all responsive – they look and work great on mobile devices. While the templates are curated into categories, there’s no podcast category, so you’ll have to make do.

site123 templates

To customize your chosen template, you have to work with predefined sections and content blocks. A deeper look into different content blocks that SITE123 offers can be found in our SITE123 review

One of the content blocks offered by SITE123 is the Music Player block, which you can use to upload episodes of your audio podcast. In this player, you can upload audio files that are up to 100 MB in size. It’s also possible to add links to external services where your content is hosted, for instance, Soundcloud or Spotify.

site123 music player

Once you’ve uploaded podcast episodes and added needed podcast information, the widget will show up on your webpage when you go live.

Just like that, with only a few simple steps, you can set up a podcast page to enable your audience to stream content directly from your site.

For promotion and extra monetization, SITE123 also offers easy-to-use SEO and marketing features.

The SEO tools are pretty good, for instance, the SEO Adviser tool analyzes your website and gives information on what could be improved.

site123 seo checker

And the SEO Page Audit checks on your titles, meta tags, and desired keywords, and gives a score from 1 to 100 and advice.

site123 seo audit

If you combine these tools together and follow their advice, your site will gain new listeners in no time.

For further promotion, SITE123 also provides a newsletter tool, which makes it easy to set up and utilize a mailing list.

site123 email marketing

The design options of this tool aren’t too extensive, but with the right message, your newsletter can be a great practical way to reach your audience.

Now, if you want to sell something on your site, SITE123 offers eCommerce features. Just like the rest of the site, the eCommerce system is very easy to use.

site123 editing shop

Just like most of this builder’s features, SITE123 displays such a simple eCommerce interface small businesses and personal users will have no issues mastering it. So if you’re looking into selling merch but you’ve never sold anything online before, SITE123 could be a great option.

Pricing

If you’re looking to check out the platform, SITE123 offers an ad-supported forever-free plan, which gives 250 MB of storage and bandwidth. Of course, if you’re serious about your podcast, you’ll want to go for one of SITE123’s four premium plans since the free plan won’t let you pick a domain name and it has a huge SITE123 ad at the bottom.

So what do the paid plans have to offer?

  • Basic ($12.80 a month) – 10 GB of storage, eCommerce functionality
  • Advanced ($19.80 a month) – 30 GB of storage, no ads, mailbox
  • Professional ($28.80 a month) – 90 GB of storage, 5 mailboxes
  • Gold ($34.80 a month) – 270 GB of storage, 10 mailboxes

All the paid plans have eCommerce functionality, but I would suggest straying away from the Basic plan – even though it’s paid, it still has SITE123 ads. The Advanced plan would probably be the best bet for a podcast site, and if you ever need more storage, you could always scale up to Professional

Overall, SITE123 is a great option to consider if you’re looking for a quick, simple, and affordable way to build a podcast website.

Buzzsprout is an incredibly easy-to-use podcast hosting platform. It offers a basic podcast website that you can use to promote your podcast and give listeners easy access to episodes.

Podcast website with Buzzsprout

Buzzsprout is an excellent podcast-focused website builder for anyone looking to create a simple podcast website quickly. The platform enables podcasters to establish, host, and distribute podcasts.

Setting up a website with Buzzsprout is honestly a breeze. Once you’ve signed up for the platform, you can enter your show’s information in the Podcast Settings tab.

buzzsprout podcast information

Next, upload your first episode and fill in the title, description, summary, and other details. You can then publish the episode immediately or schedule it to go live at a later time. Since I have no content on my site, Buzzsprout made a nice little example of how my feed would look if I did upload something.

buzzsprout example

It’s a small thing, but I genuinely like it – this example page helped me visualize my dashboard better instead of it being just a blank page.

Moving on, once your podcast is live, head over to the Directories section to submit your podcast for approval on Apple Podcasts, Stitcher, Google Play, and most of the other standard podcast directories.

buzzsprout directories

Now that your podcast is live and listed on the major podcast directories, the next step is to create a podcast website. Wait, actually, that’s already been done for you. All you have to do is navigate to the Website page in your Buzzsprount account.

The website is automatically set up to show episodes, chapter markets, descriptions, and show notes. You can also link to your social media accounts and podcast directory listings.

You can customize the look and feel of your podcast website to a limited extent. In the Color and Background tab, it’s possible to change the website’s color and upload a different background image.

buzzsprout customization

I really like how you can also see how the website will look on both desktop and mobile devices using the preview buttons.

Under the Website URL tab, you can choose to personalize your podcast’s URL. If you own a custom domain just simply select the “Use your custom domain” option and follow the steps on that page to set up the URL.

Buzzsprout’s website offering is an excellent option if you’re looking for a simple way to get your podcast website up and running as quickly as possible. However, you might find the design and customization options to be too basic. In that case, you can leverage another tool that Buzzsprout offers - an embeddable podcast player.

buzzsprout embed player

If you already have another website or decide to build one on another platform, it’s very simple to embed this podcast player with just a few lines of code. It looks great and also allows to customize certain options such as the colors, style, and sharing options.

Buzzsprout also gives you access to a couple of tools that are useful for promoting and engaging with listeners.

The video soundbites feature, for example, allows creating a visual soundbite’ of your podcast from a short clip (60 seconds or less), which you can then share on social media.

Buzzsprout also gives all the stats you’ll need including the number of listens on recent episodes, the total number of plays over time, your most popular episodes, and the average number of listeners per episode.

You can even check out what devices your listeners are on and where they’re listening from under the device and location tabs.

Pricing

When it comes to pricing, Buzzsprout keeps it simple with just three paid pricing plans, and a generous 90-day free trial, which allows to upload up to 2 hours of content each month. Once the trial period is over, you’ll have to upgrade to a paid plan. Here’s the difference between the plans:

  • $12 a month – no ads, upload 3 hrs each month, upload more content for $4 per additional hour
  • $18 a month – upload 6 hrs each month, upload more content for $3 per additional hour
  • $24 a month – upload 12 hrs each month, upload more content for $2 per additional hour

Here, the choice is definitely yours – the paid plans offer the same features, look into your content yourself to see how many hours of podcasts you want to share

On the whole, Buzzsprout is an excellent podcast hosting platform that gets your podcast online very quickly. It’s easy to use and has some nice features to enable you to promote your content.

Podbean - great podcast hosting platform with a decent site builder

Best forQuick setting up

Podbean is a podcast hosting platform that offers social media marketing and just about every audio-specific tool that a podcaster might need. It also gives access to a site builder interface and a decent array of website themes to choose from.

Podcast website with Podbean

Podbean is an intuitive platform that you can use to set up a podcast in minutes. Getting started is as easy as signing up for the free plan and selecting a custom subdomain because that’s exactly what you need to do.

Once you do that, you’ll be directed to the dashboard where you can add basic information about your podcast and upload episodes.

podbean dashboard

Click on the Podcast Website section and you’ll see that a basic website has been created with the default theme.

Now, the choice is yours – you can either start to customize it or you can select a different theme from the available options.

If you end up with the customization route, you can start to transform your site into your vision with additional features like sidebar widgets or Contact and About pages.

And if you go with the second option, Podbean gives access to a decent selection of paid themes and a couple of free themes. The themes are professional and modern and work well on mobile devices.

podbean themes

You get a basic set of customization options including the ability to change the header and background images, adjust the theme color, and change the font colors and styles.

podbean theme customization

I do like how it is possible to customize your embeddable player – it’s possible to change pretty much everything about your player, including colors, font, and even add an option to download your podcast episode.

podbean embed player

Now, when it comes to the promotion of your podcast, you don’t have to worry much about SEO – Podbean includes an SEO Meta Tags plugin that will allow adding titles, descriptions, and meta tags for search engines.

Podbean also offers social sharing – once you connect your major social profiles, Podbean automatically shares new episodes through them.

podbean social share

The analytics tool offered by Podbean is extremely specified for this niche – the basic statistics show your listener retention rate and how many downloads you get per day.

podbean analytics

Additionally, it’s also possible to connect a Google Analytics plugin, but in this case, I genuinely think that it’s not necessary.

Pricing

While you can create a podcast with the free Podbean plan, if you want to customize even the default theme, you’ll have to upgrade to a paid plan. Here’s what the plans have to offer:

  • Unlimited Audio ($9 a month) – unlimited storage and bandwidth, advanced podcast stats, personal domain
  • Unlimited Plus ($29 a month) – unlimited video hosting, podcast patron program
  • Business (starts from $99 a month) – multiple channels, no Podbean branding, live chat support

The free plan is only ideal if you’re just getting started with podcasting – you get only 5 hours of storage and 100 GB of bandwidth monthly.

If you already have a following or are beginning to acquire one, the Unlimited Audio plan is the best option to go for.  If you’re looking to create a video podcast, you’ll have to go for the more expensive Unlimited Plus plan. With this plan, you get access to Podbean’s Patron program, which enables to provide your listeners with options to support your show by pledging a monthly amount.

The Business plan is better suited to podcast networks and business podcasts. It lets you completely remove Podbean’s branding and create an unlimited amount of private and public podcasts. You also get live chat support from Podbean’s customer service team.

Overall, Podbean’s website creation tools are good enough for building simple podcast websites. If you’re looking for a convenient all-in-one hosting platform that’ll let you create a functional podcast website quickly, Podbean will suit your needs nicely.

What to consider when making a podcast website

When building a website for your podcast, there are a couple of additional features you’ll want to look out for to ensure the best results.

Collect feedback

Add a public contact email or include a place for comments within each episode of your podcast if you want to hear listener feedback on your podcast. This will help you improve and produce more quality content for your listeners.

Share additional original content

Rather than sticking to only producing audio content, utilize the blog tools that the builders offer to give some insighter knowledge to your listeners. A true fan of your podcast would be thrilled to find blog posts, videos, behind-the-scenes stories, and photos showing your podcast creation process. This additional content will make your podcast seem more personal and let you utilize the SEO tools most builders offer to attract more visitors.

Build an email newsletter

Building a newsletter is one of the best ways to directly market your podcast. A newsletter is a great place to connect with your listeners, and, coming to the first point, always ask your listeners to directly respond and share feedback.

Monetize Your Podcast

Most builders let you utilize their eCommerce features to the fullest – create paywalled content with a private podcast feed, sell merch, or even add a direct PayPal donation link.

Conclusion

There isn’t one podcast website builder that’s perfect for absolutely everyone – the builders are as different as all of the readers visiting this article.

However, each of the builders I added to this list have some excellent features and use cases.

So, for one last time, let’s review them all. These are my best podcast website builders:

  • Squarespace – brilliant all-in-one solution that enables you you you you to host your content directly on the platform
  • Wix – the builder that allows creating a unique and professional website for your podcast with the easy to set up and use Podcast Player app
  • SITE123 – super intuitive way to build a website that’ll allow you to upload audio content with great SEO and marketing tools
  • Buzzsprout – has great analytics and is picture-perfect for podcast websites

I hope that after checking out the excellent options reviewed above, you’ll waste no time taking your pick. If you’re still a bit unsure, you can always take a look at our best website builders list and see if anything else catches your eye.
