Google announces refreshed Buds Pro 2 with Gemini integration

The Pixel Buds Pro 2 now comes with Google’s Tensor A1 chip, promising better audio quality.

It’s been more than two years since Google unveiled its first generation of Pixel Buds Pro, its premium earphones with active noise cancellation (ANC).

On Tuesday, along with Pixel 9 smartphones and the Pixel watch, Google launched a renewed version of Pixel Buds Pro, which comes with a few handy upgrades.

The new earphones are 27% smaller and 24% lighter than the previous generation of Pro Buds, which, according to the company, will result in a comfortable fit in the ears.

Pixel Buds Pro 2 will feature a re-engineered audio system for better performance, enhanced by Google’s Tensor A1 chip, leading to a twice as strong ANC as the previous model.

In a briefing for media, Google's representatives explained that the A1 chip enables multi-path processing architecture and opens up a dedicated highway lane for your music, completely independent of the processing that's happening for active noise cancellation.

According to the company, this is pretty rare, even for the most premium earbuds, and the result is accurate and immersive sound right out of the box.

The new chip is also said to enable better battery performance, though the company didn’t provide the exact details.

In addition, the Pixel Buds Pro 2 will be the first earphones to feature Google’s Gemini outside of the phone, enabling a hands-free, on-the-go experience.

The refreshed airphones will cost €249 in Europe, a slight increase from the previous price. They will be available in porcelain, hazel, wintergreen, and peony.
